Solution:
The product of all the odd integers less than 10,000 can be expressed as:
1 x 3 x 5 x 7 x 9 x 11 x 13… x 9,999
1×2×3×4×5×6×...×10,000
2×4×6×8×...×10,000
Notice that in the denominator each of the 5,000 numbers, being even, can be re-expressed as 2 times some number,
such as:
2×1=2
2×2=4
2×3=6
2×4=8
...
2 × 5, 000 = 10, 000
1×2×3×4×5×6×...×10,000
(2×1)×(2×2)×(2×3)×(2×4)×...×(2×5,000)
Notice that from 2 × 1 to 2 × 5,000 we have five thousand 2’s, so we can combine those 2’s to give us 25000.
Now we can express the denominator as 2 5,000 (1 × 2 × 3 × 4 × ... × 5, 000) , so we now have:
1×2×3×4×5×6×...×10,000 10,000!
=
2 5,000 (1×2×3×4×...×5,000) 2 5,000 ×5000!
