Union Carbide
India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant
in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, there was a gas
leak accident which is referred as The Bhopal
disaster or The Bhopal gas tragedy. It is one of the
world's worst industrial disasters. There were over
500,000 people who were exposed to methyl
isocyanate  gas. It had highly toxic substance amd it
made it reached small towns located near the plant.
Water entering into the tank of Methyl Isocyanate
was the the main cause of this tragedy. It caused a
reaction which resulted in the release of toxic Methyl
Isocyanate gas. Around 15,000 to 20,000 people
died because of the Bhopal disaster, and there were
respiratory problems, blindness, and other health
problems to some 500,000 survivors.
The Indian government passed the Bhopal Gas Leak
Disaster Act in March 1985 to ensure that claims
came up after the accident should be resolved
speedily and equitably. if Union Carbide Corp. had
met its own plant safety recommendations, this
deadly gas leak could have been prevented and also
if Indian officials heared worker complaints and two
international labor groups.
