1. Assembly (Skipping this can lead to troubles ! )

Ok, so we have your attention. These hints will help you to make this project successful.
Read them carefully.

1.1 Make sure you have the right tools:

• A good quality soldering iron (25-40W) with a

small tip.
• Wipe it often on a wet sponge or cloth, to keep
it clean; then apply solder to the tip, to give it a
wet look. This is called ‘thinning’ and will protect the tip, and enables you to make good connections. When sol-
der rolls off the tip, it needs cleaning.

• Thin raisin-core solder. Do not use any flux or grease.

• A diagonal cutter to trim excess wires. To avoid injury

when cutting excess leads, hold the lead so they can-
not fly towards the eyes.

• Needle nose pliers, for bending leads, or to hold components in place.

• Small blade and phillips screwdrivers. A basic range is fine.

For some projects, a basic multi-meter is required, or might be 0.0

handy 00

1.2 Assembly Hints :

þ Make sure the skill level matches your experience, to avoid disappointments.
þ Follow the instructions carefully. Read and understand the entire step before you perform each operation.
þ Perform the assembly in the correct order as stated in this manual
þ Position all parts on the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) as shown on the drawings.
þ Values on the circuit diagram are subject to changes.
þ Values in this assembly guide are correct*
þ Use the check-boxes to mark your progress.
þ Please read the included information on safety and customer service

* Typographical inaccuracies excluded. Always look for possible last minute manual updates, indicated as ‘NOTE’
on a separate leaflet.

1.3 Soldering Hints :

Mount the component against the Make sure the solder joints are Trim excess leads as close as pos-
PCB surface and carefully solder the cone-shaped and shiny sible to the solder joint
leads

20. HOOK-UP AND USE

Power supply :
• Batteries : 4 x 1.5V AAA (use included battery holder)
Idle power consumption : 15µA max.
Record power consuption : 26mA
Playback : 50mA max.

• Transformer : secundary : 9 to 12VAC

Idle power consumption : 7mA
Record power consumption : 40mA
Playback : 75mA max.

Hook-up of one unit :

• Mount wire jumpers JR & JE
• For message auto-repeat, connect RPT to STRT (by means of a switch)
• RPT and STRT must not be connected during message recording.

Hook-up of two or more units :

• Mount JR and JE on the last module
• Mount JC on the other module(s)
• For message auto-repeat, connect RPT of the last module with STRT of
the first module.
• During replay, a ‘click’ sound is heard at switchover between two units.
• If 5 or more units are put in cascade, the voltage regulator (VR1) of the
first unit needs to be cooled with a small heatsink.

Signal input :

• Microphone :
Mount wire jumper JM on the first module.

• Line input :
Enter the audio signal between AIN and GND
Max input level : 25mV rms

Signal output :

• Loudspeaker :
Connect an 8 ohm loudspeaker between SP- and SP+ of the first module.

12
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

• Line output :
A line level signal is available between SP+ and GND

How to record a message :

• Put SW1 in the position ‘RECORD’

• LD1 lights
• Press SW2 to record
• Releasing SW2 will end the recording session
• LD2 lights when the memory is full

How to replay a message :

• Put SW1 in the position ‘PLAY’

• Press SW2 briefly. (Do not continue to press SW2, it will lock-up the unit)
• The message will be played, and will end automatically

Optional rotary switch :

• Add this switch to divide the recording time in 5 blocks.

• Select a block by turning the switch to the desired position
• Each block can have a different length
