Some people think that governments should spend as much money as possible on dev

eloping or buying computer technology. Other people disagree and think that this
money should be spent on more basic needs. Which one of these opinions do you a
gree with? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
---------------------------------------------------

I feel government must spend more money on basic human needs rather than compute
r technology.
Immense increase in world population has given rise to many grave problems. The
basic human needs for fresh water, food, housing and fuel have sky rocketed and
those are making unprecedented demands on our global and local ecosystems. Furth
er than the necessities of survival, there is increasing demand throughout the g
lobe for more material goods and services. As the nations strive to increase mat
erial wealth and the comforts and conveniences, the pressure on biodiversity and
natural resources has tremendously increased. Enormous housing constructions ca
uses trees falling and jungle cutting thereby causing imbalance of ecology. Furt
hermore, numerous vehicles cause environment pollution by emission of carbon mon
o oxide and carbon-dioxide and heat generation.
Heat generation thus adds to global warming. Global warming represents a profoun
d and emerging threat to biodiversity around the world. As temperatures rise, ma
ny habitats for plants and animals will change sometimes depriving them of the h
omes and niches. As a result, many species will become extinct, and ecosystems a
round the world will become even more fragile.
Massive industrialization has caused tremendous amount of gases in the atmospher
e that has in turn caused depletion in ozone layer resulting into shortage of Ox
ygen. Many other liquids discharged in form of effluents contaminate the earth t
hereby most fertile land turns into barren.
Summarizing, a large population strata consists of commoners that has no direct
or indirect impact of advancement of computer technology. However computer techn
ology is important for overall progress and development. But the basic human nee
ds are a paramount importance for survival and must not be neglected.
