OBJECTIVES OF THE UNITED STATES VISIT:

1. Administration: Examination of local government structure, city planning,


and ansportation especially in medium-sized cities. He would like to
meet a mayor and observe a city council function.
2. Crime: Mr. Bildt has noted the recent figures in declining crime rates
anti would like to have an explanation of the possible reasons for this
decline.

3. Communications: Visit to a local radio/TV station and an examination of


cableTV operations.
4. Sea_ccee program: Examination of international cooperation in space explora-
tion, with particular emphasis on communications and earth resources satel-
lites.

5. Politics: Visit to the U.S. Congress and a congressional hearing; examina-


t ono public relations and activities of a political party.

6. Youth: Visit to student/youth division of national political parties.

7. Education: Study of the recent trends in the field of higher education.


8. Foreign policy: Briefings by appropriate desk officers (State Department)
on U.S.-Swedish relations.
