TOPICS: SYSTEM MANAGEMENT THEORY

Reflection/Reaction Paper No. 4

1. What significant learning did you get from the topic?

Management theories help organizations to focus, communicate, and evolve.

Using management theory in the workplace allows leadership to focus on their main

goals. When a management style or theory is implemented, it automatically streamlines

the top priorities for the organization. Systems management offers an alternative

approach to the planning and management of organizations. The systems management

theory proposes that businesses, like the human body, consists of multiple components

that work harmoniously so that the larger system can function optimally. Systems theory

is used in situations where standard practices of predicting exactly what will happen in a

simple deterministic system will not work because a system is too complex. For

example, the "open system" phrase highlights the point that organizations always exist

and function within a broader environment-- political constraints, economic forces,

public opinion, technological innovation, other organizations, and today climate change

and environmental disaster. In thermodynamics, a closed system is important

for solving complicated thermodynamic problems. It allows the elimination of some

external factors that could alter the results of the experiment or problem thus simplifying

it.

2. Why is the learning of value to you as an educator or as a future school

administrator?

The power of systems theory is derived from the capacity to give the teacher an

alternative view of the complex social milieu within which pupils and teachers interact. It

provides a conceptual framework that allows flexibility and a language for describing

problems and methods of generating solutions. It helps in Achieving Group Goals - It

arranges the factors of production, assembles, and organizes the resources, integrates

the resources in effective manner to achieve goals. It directs group efforts towards

achievement of pre-determined goals. Systems thinking in education allows education

leaders to not only recognize the relationships between the different components of a

school system but also use them to solve problems.

3. What are your realizations, insights, and discoveries regarding the topic?

A systems theory is hence a theoretical perspective that analyzes a phenomenon seen

as a whole and not as simply the sum of elementary parts. The focus is on the

interactions and on the relationships between parts to understand an entity's

organization, functioning and outcomes. Systems theory seeks to explain and develop

hypotheses around characteristics that arise within complex systems that seemingly

could not arise in any single system within the whole. Management theories are

a collection of ideas that recommend general rules for how to manage an organization
or business. Management theories address how supervisors implement strategies to

accomplish organizational goals and how they motivate employees to perform at their

highest ability.
