Note: All parts of the question must be answered at one place.

1. Derive the deflection equations for a beam column with a uniformly distributed load
throughout the whole span. And also derive the maximum deflection and maximum
bending moment.

2. a) Derive the crippling load for buckling of straight columns with


i) one end fixed and other end free and ii) one end fixed and other end hinged .
b) Derive the crippling load for buckling of bars with distributed axial load.

3. a) Derive the crippling load for buckling of bar with effect of shear force on critical
load.
b) Derive the crippling load for buckling of bar with the effect of initial curvature.

4. a) Explain the evolution of reduced modulous and Tangent modulous theories.


b) Derive the reduced modulous for an I-section.

5. Derive the crippling load for a any bar with changes in cross section.

6. Derive the expression for warping (ω) , axial strain and normal stress for the case of
non- uniform torsion of thin-walled bars of open cross-section.

7. Explain the lateral buckling of beams of I-section subjected to pure bending. Derive the
critical values.

8. Write short notes on


a) Application of trigonometric series.
b) Buckling of frames in sway mode.
