Hints and Tips

for Eligibility and Compliance Check - Australia Awards scholarship


AAS 2022 Intake

Before start conducting Australia Awards compliance check make sure that:
1. You have OASIS accounts access.
2. You must keep all awardee’s information confidential.
3. Do not copy paste or share applicant’s information to your friend or save or your personal devices
4. If you have any close family member with the applicants, please declare to other staff and his or her application
access or review by other staff.
5. You must read and understand both Global and in country eligibility criteria. (country profile as supporting
document)
6. Make sure that keep a copy of AAS county profile.

Following are fundamental information that you must familiarise yourself with before and when conducting E&C process:

1. AAS Global eligibility criteria


To be eligible to receive an Australia Awards Scholarship, applicants must:
i. be a minimum of 18 years of age on 1 February of the year of commencing the scholarship.
ii. be a citizen of a participating country (as listed on the Australia Awards website) and be residing in
and applying for the scholarship from their country of citizenship.
iii. not be a citizen of Australia, hold permanent residency in Australia or be applying for a visa to live in
Australia permanently.
iv. not be married to, engaged to, or a de facto of a person who holds, or is eligible to hold, Australian or
New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency, at any time during the application, selection or
mobilisation phases (note: residents of Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau with New Zealand citizenship
are eligible but must apply for a Student visa [subclass 500]);
v. not be current serving military personnel.
vi. not have previously received a long-term Australia Award unless they have resided outside of
Australia for twice the length of the total time that they were in Australia (for example, a previous
awardee who has been on an Australia Awards Scholarship in Australia for four years will not be
eligible to apply for another Australia Awards Scholarship until they have resided outside Australia for
eight years);
vii. not hold convictions or currently under investigation of criminal activities including those relating to
Child Protection and PSEAH;
viii. recipients under the Pacific Secondary School Scholarship Program (PSSSP) who have completed
their secondary school education in Australia in the year prior are eligible to apply for a long-term
Australia Award.
ix. have satisfied any specific criteria established by the Program Area or the government of the
applicant’s country of citizenship (e.g. having worked a certain number of years in an appropriate
sector);
x. be able to satisfy the admission requirements of the institution at which the award is to be undertaken
(this may mean that Program Areas will need to withdraw an award offer if the recipient cannot satisfy
the institution’s admission requirements. This may not be known until Program Areas request a
placement at selected institutions);
xi. be able to satisfy all requirements of the Department of Home Affairs to hold a Student Visa. This may
mean that the Program Area will need to withdraw an award offer if the recipient cannot satisfy the
visa requirements;
xii. not be applying for a scholarship for a course of study at an academic level lower than already
achieved (e.g. be applying for a Master’s scholarship when they already hold a PhD); and
xiii. applicants must inform the Program Area of any connection or relationship to staff employed at
Program Areas (including locally engaged staff at post) or with managing contractors so that the
application may be properly and transparently managed.

2.Timor Leste In country Eligibility Criteria


To be eligible to receive an Australia Awards Scholarship, applicants must:
I. be usually and currently residing in Timor-Leste, and have lived in Timor-Leste for at least 10 years (cumulative)
since 1999, with some exceptions for applicants working for the Government of Timor- Leste (GoTL) in a third
country
ii. if a recipient of a previous scholarship, including GoTL scholarships, have worked in Timor-Leste for a minimum
of two years (cumulative).
iii. not have citizenship of any developed country (exceptions may be made in some instances for Timorese citizens
holding Portuguese citizenship)
iv. be applying to commence a new course of study at a level higher than the applicant’s current educational
qualification (exceptions will be considered for Masters applicants who have completed Masters studies in Timor-
Leste)
v. not currently hold another scholarship with the same benefits
vi. not have been terminated from a previous Australian Government scholarship.
Applicants employed as civil servants must:
i. applies for studies relevant to their current work and their organisation,
ii. applications must be endorsed by a senior government official e.g. Director General or National Director,
iii. before they start their application, check with the human resource department of the Civil Service Commission if
they have permission to apply for an Australia Awards Scholarship and,
Applicants gained previous scholarship under Timor- Leste Government must:
I. if previously awarded a Government of Timor-Leste scholarship, check with the relevant scholarship department to
ensure they have fulfilled their scholarship conditions and can apply for an Australia Awards scholarship and,
II. if previously awarded a Government of Timor-Leste scholarship, provide a confirmation letter from the relevant
government scholarship department.

3. Level of study for AAS 2022 Intake

 Diploma studies Diploma/Advanced for People living disability only.


 Bachelor’s degree
 Postgraduate Certificate & Diploma (permanent public servant only)
 Master’s degree (all applicant)
 PhD (all applicant)

4. Priority fields of study for AAS 2022 Intake

 The priority areas of study for undergraduate studies in Timor-Leste are below. Example fields of study in brackets
are not limited to these:
1. Economics (examples of areas of study include Economics, Economic Statistics, Macroeconomics,
Microeconomics or Economic Planning)
2 . Nutrition (examples of areas of study include Nutrition, Nutrition Science, Dietetics, Nutrition or Food
Sciences)
3. Health (Limited course for doctor, dentist, and vet courses)

 Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma scholarships will be offered to permanent Public Servants
only.
 There are No priority areas of study at the Master and PHD level.s
5. Qualification Requirement
Applicants with a disability for Diploma/Advanced Diploma studies only must have:

 graduated from senior high school with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 7.00 or
 have graduated from the UNTL CBR diploma 1 with a GPA of at least 2.50.
Applicants for Bachelor studies must have:

 graduated from senior high school with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 7.00 or
 have graduated from the UNTL CBR Diploma 1 with a GPA of at least 2.50.
 minimum of a GPA 6.50 acceptable however with work experience in a relevant sector for a minimum of 4 years.
Masters by coursework or research and Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma level applicants must
have:

 a recog nized undergraduate degree with a GPA of at least 2.75 or


 minimum of a GPA 2.50 acceptable with work experience in a relevant sector for a minimum of 2 years.
PhD level applicants must have:

 a recognized master degree with GPA of at least 3.00

6.Supporting documents require:

Applicants must submit all the relevant supporting documents listed below, and make sure submitting all relevant
documents base on level of study.

Failure to provide the essential documents, application will not consider for the next level of selection process:
