 Determinism- everything in the world is related/cousal events (origin & end), all
events are caused by past events. All things are directed towards the end. MAN
IS SELF-DETERMINED.

The problem on freedom: Are humans really free?

- yes, men are free
- animals’ freedom only base their freedom on their instincts

What impedes freedom?

- chance
- social pressure
- extreme feelings and passions

Jean Paul Sartre

- Paris, described himself as ugly

- fluidity of existence
- life doesn’t have to be pre - ordained
- he doesn’t like his idea to be institutionalized

Consciousness- affirming the existence, no experience = no existence

Existence before essence vs Essence before existence

- man is born wiith no pre - ordained purpose and it is his job to define it, hence life
is meaningless. Man is also born free

Sartre’s Heideggerian influence

- man is throw into the world, being in the world.
- as a being in the world, you are caught up in a situation (does that object chose
where it lands?)
 Alethea - or revelation is when we reveal ourselves little by little through
journeys

 Sartrean existentialism - aware of our own existence as it is stripped off of any

prejudice ang assumptions lent to us by our day-to-day routine.
