By the end of 2020 and early 2021, a mental health crisis is expected due to longer periods of confinement related to a new wave of COVID-19 infections. Studies show that the previous confinement led to increased anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders. A recent study in Colombia found that 29% of people surveyed experienced anxiety and 35% experienced depression during the pandemic. Younger adults and those with lower incomes reported higher levels of mental health issues. The results suggest a new wave of infections could lead to further increases in anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions due to additional periods of isolation.

By the end of 2020 and early 2021 there will be a mental
health crisis because we are going to have a longer confinement, this crisis will be reflected in the increase in disorders such as anxiety and depression. Justification • According to the coronavirus case count, we are facing a new wave of infections which previously led us to confinement to avoid a more rapid spread of the virus. Our prognosis is that a new wave of mental health conditions is coming such as anxiety, depression and in more severe cases these lead to suicide. All this because in the past studies were carried out on how confinement had affected mental health and it was found that disorders such as depression and anxiety had been highly aggravated in quarantine. • The World Health Organization (WHO) and experts from different parts of the world warned about the mental health problems that confinement and the pandemic could generate and today, six months after the latter was declared, the first studies confirm them. • The PSY-Covid-19 study, which is being carried out in the world to know the psychological effects of the pandemic, has already shown some results in Colombia. • In this country, the Javeriana University of Cali, the University of Barcelona (UBAT) and the Colombian College of Psychologists participated in the study. They obtained 18,061 responses from people between the ages of 18 and 90, 75% women and the remaining 25% men. 45% were formal workers, 89% had university studies and 62% a medium income level. • 9% said they had a mental health disorder since before the pandemic. The results showed that 29% of the consulted population had symptoms of anxiety and 35% of depression. • The population most affected in their mental health was the female. 31% of the women reported anxiety and 36% depression. Also young adults, of which 37% said they felt depressed. The other most affected population was the one with the lowest income, in which 36% had anxiety and 46% had depression. According to the Revista Pesquisa of the Javeriana University, which published the results of the study, "these symptoms of depression and anxiety in the Colombian population in recent months are related, among other factors, to new work dynamics and the decrease in income ". • The results of the survey indicate that 74% of people feel their income is threatened and 69% the continuity of their employment or their studies. Likewise, during the pandemic work activity has deteriorated by 63%, income by 55%, physical activity by 50% and sleep habits by 49%. • This study was conducted through anonymous online surveys and, so far, has collected more than 75,000 responses globally, with the work of 80 researchers from 40 universities. For now, only the first results from Colombia have been delivered. • The research also showed a series of positive effects on the mental health of those surveyed in Colombia due to the pandemic. 60% said that their social relationships had improved, 71% considered that their personal strength had increased, 65% had a spiritual change and 82% said they appreciate life more. Null Hypothesis
• By the end of 2020 and early 2021 there will not be a
mental health crisis because we will no longer have a longer confinement, this crisis will not be reflected in the increase in disorders such as anxiety and depression. Alternative Hypothesis
• Confinement will not have an effect on people's mental
health because they will already be more accustomed to the contingency and in this way, they can meditate or take plenty of time to dedicate themselves to maintaining their stable mental health and without any type of illness. that affects them.
