Q.2.Answer any five of the following questions in three to four sentences each.

i. What according to Steve Jobs should be one’s approach to life?

Steve Jobs says that one needs to trust his/her gut, karma, or something else. He
says that this will give a person the confidence to move forward even if he finds
himself off course. He mentions that there might be hardships in one’s life but
that should not make one lose faith and hope. He strongly believes in doing what
one loves and cherishes. Jobs also advised everyone to live their life everyday as
if it were their last day on earth. Jobs advocates the fact that one should be
courageous enough to follow his/her heart and intuition

ii. Why Jobs says that dropping out from college was not all that romantic.

Steve Jobs says that dropping out of college was not at all romantic to stress the
fact that this decision brought with it its own share of hardships. He had no
dorm, he had to sleep on floor, sell used coke bottles and even walk seven miles
weekly to get at least one good meal. These facts show that his dropping out of
college wasn’t after all so romantic.

iii. How his calligraphy lessons proved indispensable to his success.

The calligraphy lessons, which according to young Jobs had no practical


implications proved crucial to his success. He was left intrigued and fascinated
by the art of decorative handwriting. These lessons later proved to be fruitful as
he applied them to the interface of Macintosh computer released by apple.
Macintosh became the first computer to use the beautiful typography

iv. How did Steve Jobs react when he was fired from Apple.

Steve Jobs was left thoroughly devastated and despondent. The very company he
had established had shown him the door. He didn’t know what to do or what to
expect next in his life and felt miserable as he thought he had left the previous
generation of entrepreneurs down.

v. What Jobs implies when he says looking backward it is easy to connect the
dots.

Mr. Jobs believe that anything you do at present might not make any sense to
you at that moment, but years later when you look back in your past you would
be able to make sense out of it, and understand its significance. So he emphasizes
on the need to believe in one’s gut, karma or something and remain confident.

vi. Why Jobs dubs death as purely intellectual concept?

Jobs dubs death as purely intellectual concept to refer to the fact that he
narrowly escaped death and conclude that no one wants to die. He dubbed this to
reason the fact that a person only lives once and everyone who is born shall die.
So he advices his audience to live their lives to the fullest and according to their
own will.
vii. In what context Jobs suggests his audience “Keep looking. Don’t settle.”

Steve Jobs advices his audience to keep looking for the thing they love doing. He
says that one should do great work and to do great work one should do what
he/she loves. He is certain that a person should do what he/she loves in order to
guarantee satisfaction, and success.

viii. Comment on Jobs concluding phrase “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

Steve Jobs concluded his speech with the mighty punch line – “Stay Hungry. Stay
Foolish”. He wanted his audience to remain ambitious and wanted them to
have the courage to take risks. He believed that each person should follow
his/her heart without thinking of consequences and do what hey love the most
throughout their lives as each person only sets foot in this world once.
