Samsung Electronics focuses their sustainability practices in three dimensions, those are economic,
social and environmental. In terms of the economic dimension, Samsung Electronics communicate
with stakeholders through various channels, addressing their position on their interests as well as the
company’s major activities. The company also host multi stakeholder forums in Vietnam, they actively
participate in initiatives such as the Responsible Labor Initiative (RLI) from the RBA, and communicate
with investors through IR ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) roadshows. Samsung Electronics
communicate with their employees to ensure that they respect employees' rights and improve
employees' working conditions. And lastly they are also engage in continuous dialogue to seek mutual
solutions, detect, and prevent potential risk factors. While for the social dimension, Samsung
Electronics, as a responsible global corporate citizen, committed themselves to help resolve problems
faced by the communities in which they work. To this end, the company allocated KRW 2.6 trillion to
maintain the safety of their supply chain. They also extended their technical support and service
periods to support their customers that uses Samsung products and services. Samsung provided
technical support, expert personnel, knowledge, and infrastructure to the local communities, and
donated USD 39 million to governments, medical, and educational facilities in areas severely affected
by COVID-19. And lastly for the environmental dimension, Samsung Electronics are gradually replacing
product packaging materials with sustainable materials such as paper instead of plastic, vinyl, and
other disposable materials. They plan to fully convert paper for packaging and user manual into
sustainably-sourced paper by 2020. Plastic containers and vinyl packaging used for mobile product
packaging are being replaced by pulp mold and paper, while vinyl wrappings for earphones and cables
are being replaced with sustainable materials. Also, Samsung plans to gradually replace all packaging
materials for home appliances with sustainable materials.
