• We will be carrying out the theoretical lectures every Monday for 3 hours from 09:00
to 12:00
• The laboratory application will be made face-to-face at the Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Campus every Thursday. For laboratory practice, 4 groups will be formed in certain
numbers. The groups will be determined at the meeting to be held in the 2nd week.
• The students are required to attend all the online lectures. If for personal or technical
reasons you cannot attend the live lectures you are responsible for watching the
recorded online lecture video later during the week by our university's distance
education portal https://ues.marmara.edu.tr/.
• You will find documents related to the course that you will be responsible for this term
and the laboratory application of the course through the UES web portal or
PEARSON MyLab web portal.
• I have given you detailed explanations on the topics for you to be more successful in
your General Chem.I course and to adapt more easily to the new online education
system. Please read this information carefully (Student Registration Instructions is
given below).

 • I will upload the presentations I made in our lecture to the website of our university

• In addition, what will be done in the laboratory session every week will be uploaded

• I will do my lecture on the ZOOM platform and upload it to our university's website
https://ues.marmara.edu.tr/ so that you can follow the lecture later. If I use another
platform instead of ZOOM, I will share this with you.

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TEXT BOOK:

• I am going to follow the course textbook named “Modified Mastering Chemistry for
Chemistry: The Central Science 14th Edition” to make our course more successful
and sustainable.
• I am going to send the HW assignments at the end of each chapter of your textbook by
using PEARSON MyLab web portal via at

• Since your HW grade will be determined according to the grade of these assignments
you have completed. I strongly recommend that you enroll in this PEARSON MyLab
web portal. In this way, your HW grade will be determined.

ASSESSMENT:

• Mid-term Exam 1:
In this first midterm, you will be responsible for the first 5 chapters (15) and
laboratory experiments up to this date. First mid-term exam will be given to the
students that will be scheduled on a suitable date by the department and will worth
15% of the overall grade.
• Mid-term Exam 2:
I am going to give you assignments at the end of each chapter. I will send these
assignments to you using PEARSON web portal. Your HW grades will be
determined at the end of the year based on the scores from these assignments given to
you at the end of each chapter of your textbook. Second mid-term exam will worth 21
% of the overall grade.
• Quiz 1 and Quiz 2: These quizzes will be given to the students that will be scheduled
on a suitable date using PEARSON web portal or UES web portal and each one will
worth 7.5% of the overall grade.
• Laboratory assignments:
Lab assignments will be given to the students that will be scheduled on a suitable date.
Scoring will be made by the research assistant according to the reporting of the
experiments and will worth 9 % of the overall grade.
• Final Exam: A final exam will be given to the students that will be scheduled on a
suitable date in the final’s week to you.
• Note1: Mid-term Exam, quizzes and laboratory assignments will worth 60% of the
overall grade, whereas final exam will worth 40% of the overall grade. All this
information is included in the syllabus.
