REFLECTION

1.Why is STS called ‘Science, Technology, and Society, ‘and not ‘Science and
Technology and Sociology’?

- Science, Technology and Society (STS) is an interdisciplinary field that studies the conditions
under which the production, distribution and utilization of scientific knowledge and technological
systems occur, the consequences of these activities upon different groups of people. The field
of science provide data for innovation in technology, but technological development requires
more scientific knowledge. Technology improves the quality of life in the society, but societal
progress is highly dependent on technological advancement. Societal needs are accommodated
by science, and scientific discoveries help improve the quality of life.

2.From the table list that you created in Activity, how does each invention/discovery in
your list qualify to be relevant to your course?

- These inventions and discovery are relevant to my course since we also have to think about
building materials, integrity, scientific methodology, technology and many more. The balanced
integration of artistic sensibility and scientific methodology is important in our course as it
applies to designing buildings and their environments is essential to creating great architecture.
The scientific method is used by architects to research and develop concepts on myriad levels
required to create buildings.

3.Did this pandemic (COVID-19) cause a paradigm shift? Explain in the perspective of
science, technology, and society.

- The COVID-19 pandemic has the potential to result in multiple paradigms shifts in
organizations that society, in general, has yet to fully anticipate. The spectrum of shifts
ranges from personal to professional, individual to organizational, and across most
industries. The world is at its most interdependent economically and has never faced this
level of comprehensive interruption. Science has evolved by facing the challenges to make a
vaccine for everyone, technology has evolved starting with online education and working
and the society has evolved by facing this fear and by learning through the hard way in this
occurring pandemic. The society relied to technology when we are in our homes,
technology and the society relied on science to make a vaccine and science relies on
technology to receive more information about covid.
