Topic: Your Words Become Your Reality

Text: Prov. 16: 21 – 23; James 3: 2 – 10.

Introduction
When we speak, we release words from our heart, that have been stored in them and processed by our minds.
Our minds and brain arrange the words in such a way that it carries the heart’s intent, purpose, desire, passion
and other qualities, so that the message from our heart is understood.

The words you speak are like seeds; when you speak something out, you give life to what you are saying. When
you plant a seed, (Mango seed or Papaya Seed) you get the fruits of that seed (Mango or Pawpaw). So if you plant
good words (seeds) in your life or path, you will harvest good fruits.

1 Peter 3:10 For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from
speaking deceit;

The heart and mind are the controller of our actions; and it is the words we store in our heart that controls the
heart. The heart guides everything, even our speech.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

Your life will move in the direction you are speaking; You plant seeds when you talk, and eventually, you will eat
the fruits of your words. Read Prov. 16:21 – 23 again.

Let’s consider the following text:1 Sam 17: 41 – 47;

 Goliath’s words planted the seed of fear in the hearts of the Israelites
 Goliath’s words broke the fighting spirits of the armies of the lord
 Goliath’s words were defiant to God.
 Goliath’s words were becoming the reality for the philistines, however;
 David’s words planted victory seeds on the outcome of the battle
 David’s words moved the outcome of the battle in the direction he spoke it would.
 David’s words produced his desired fruit, and he ate them.
 David’s words, spoken in faith, became the reality for the Israelites.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

You can’t talk negative and expect to live positive lives; you can’t talk defeat and expect to have victory. With our
tongue, we bless our lives or curse it.

James 3:9-10 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in
God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.

Consider Exo. 16:2-4a In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The Israelites said
to them, "If only we had died by the LORD's hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we
wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death." Then the LORD said to
Moses, "I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that
day.

They praised God with their lips when he brought them out of the tyranny of Egypt, yet the grumbled against
Moses and God, afterwards. And in so doing that generation entrapped themselves with their words.

You are not snared (trapped) by your thoughts; negative thoughts come to us all, but when you speak them out,
you entrap yourself, and they become your reality. (See Prov. 6:1 – 4). Most of us pray positively and then counter
our prayers with negativity.
Your words can be used to describe a situation, but your focus should be to use your words to speak change into
that situation.

A thought will die stillborn if you don’t say it; if you don’t give it life, all because your words carries life. It is very
tempting to vent-out your frustration, and we spend lots of time talking about it, describing it, looking for blame
and reason. In so doing, that frustration won’t go away, instead it our words becomes our reality.

In place of describing the problem or issue, while not speak change into it. Let your heart believe the situation can
and will change. Feed your heart with the right words from the Bible, then confess those words, so that your mind
and brain begin to formulate actions that will make those words a reality.

This is why the Bible encourages, warns and advise us with the following text:
 Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as
fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
 Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord,
my rock and my redeemer.
 Proverbs 21:23 Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble
 Proverbs 18:20 From the fruit of a man's mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips
 James 1:19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow
 Mark 11:23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and
does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.
 Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought
to answer each person
 Ephesians 5:4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but
instead let there be thanksgiving

There are dangers of reckless speaking.

 Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger
 James 1:26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this
person's religion is worthless
 Pro 12:18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
 Matthew 12:36‐37 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they
speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
 Proverbs 18:13 If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame

Summary:
When your words are going in the right direction, then your life will go in that direction
James 3:3 – 6 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or
take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small
rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.
Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts
of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

Consider Psalms 141: 3 – 5 Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. Let not my
heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their
delicacies. Let a righteous man strike me--it is a kindness; let him rebuke me--it is oil on my head. My head will not
refuse it. Yet my prayer is ever against the deeds of evildoers;

Adopt this principle: “don’t talk about the mountain; talk to the mountain” It is not enough to pray about
something, you need to speak expectation into it. Something happens when we speak. Our words are powerful
and full of life; able to bring to reality was is spoken.
