The creator of Romeo and Juliet

In turn, you can see the different levels in which the plot rotates thanks to the events that
occur to the characters. Very little is known about William Shakespeare's childhood. He
was born in the English city of Stratford-upon-Avon, about 160 kilometers northwest of
London in 1564. William's father, named John, was a successful leather merchant who was
once a counselor, and his mother, Mary, was a farmer's daughter He was the third of six
children, including two older sisters and three younger brothers.

Growing up in Stratford-upon-Avon William lived in a house with his large family on

Henley Street. When William turned eighteen he married Anne Hathaway. Anne was eight
years older than William. This great development that occurred in the dramatic genre and
theatrical representation in the Elizabethan era, was the framework in which William
Shakespeare created his works, and became the most outstanding playwright of the time.

William Shakespeare made a great transformation to the theater, recovering the depth and
greatness of a classical theater that had been lost in medieval times. At the end of the
century, it was established in the theater «The Globe» and in the following years it
premiered Hamlet, King Lear and Macbeth. Developed all genres, following always the
tastes of the public, made up of the aristocrats and bourgeois of London.
In Shakespeare, one of the characteristics present in the Elizabethan theater can be observed
very clearly, which are the different levels in which the plot revolves: the tragic, the comic,
the supernatural, the real and the fantastic are mixed. In the structure of his works the
following is always followed: there is a hero who occupies the center of events, and his
problems lead to other events. But they are not the only important ones, but there are other
characters of equal greatness. In turn, you can see the different levels in which the plot
rotates thanks to the events that occur to the characters. They live different experiences,
which came from revenge, jealousy, ambition, envy.
His work is a compendium of the feelings, pain and ambitions of the human soul, where he
highlights the fantasy and poetic sense of his comedies, and the realistic detail and
treatment of the characters in their great tragedies. Among his titles, Hamlet, Romeo and
Juliet, Othello, King Lear, The Midsummer Night's Dream, Antonio and Cleopatra, Julius
Caesar and The Tempest stand out.

Shakespeare occupies a unique position in the world, as his plays continue to be read and
performed worldwide.
