CHAPTER I

Introduction

Background of the Study

Schools have been closed all around the world as a result of the pandemic. According

to the World Economic Forum many online learning platforms, notably BYJU'S, a Bangalore-

based educational technology and online tutoring corporation started in 2011, are now the

world's most highly valued educational technology company, offering free access to their

services in response to overwhelming demand. The efficiency of online learning, however,

differs by age group. It is critical to employ technology to make learning enjoyable and

successful.  It will be difficult for the vast majority of children who lose opportunities to study as

a result of the epidemic to recover, so we won’t be able to help them. On 14 th December 2020,

Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones of the Department of Education respectfully submits a report

to the President recommending the conduct of a pilot implementation or dry-run of face-to-face

classes in low-risk areas, on a limited scale, and under strict health and safety measures.

Countries need to implement teaching efforts that have proven to be effective during

the remote learning phase and integrate them into the normal education system in order to

rebuild better education systems. Distance education has been initiated utilizing various technical
tools and Internet-based education systems in order to assure the continuity of education for

school-aged children around the world during the pandemic time. Current students’ academics

and lives will be affected in a variety of ways, some of which are still unknown. Students should

understand that while we may face a variety of challenges in the midst of the pandemic, we

cannot change the fact that education is critical now. And according to Magdalena Brier,

Managing Director of ProFuturo, “Education is a basic human right, but above all it is key to the

development of countries.” She explained that we know the future is unclear when children are

unable to attend school. Even when they do go to school, there aren't always enough guarantees

that they'll be able to gain the educational abilities that 21st-century society requires.

The primary goal of this research is to inform action, prove a hypothesis, and

contribute to the advancement of knowledge in a particular field or topic of study. A tool for

knowledge acquisition and learning facilitation. Means of gaining a better understanding of

various issues and raising public awareness.

Objective of the Study

This study aims to inform students and teachers about the necessity of education in the

midst of a pandemic and what strategies need to be developed in order to be effectively prepared.

Before we can make strategies to achieve our goal, we need to know what we want to achieve.

What has to be done and how it should be done.

Specifically, it sought to answers the following questions:

1. Which video conferencing software did you find to be the most effective?

2. What would students prefer: a face-to-face class, a modular class, or an online class?

3. In an online learning environment, what learning activities or tasks can assist students in

forming a learning community?

Significance of the Study

The findings of this study may be beneficial to students, teachers, parents,

government and students with disabilities.

Students. It may assists students in gaining knowledge and increasing their self-confidence

throughout their lives. It has a significant impact on both our professional and personal

development. The learners are given the choice of how they will continue their studies, where

and when they can do so, and how they will comply with the standards and demonstrate learning

outcomes.

Teachers. This study may assist in improving teacher-student engagement by providing better

access to information, data, and networks, allowing teachers to better support student learning.

As they had to balance instructing and delivering feedback to students online, filling

administrative reports, and caring for their families.

Parents. The current study aims to know more about parents' experiences with home learning

and management during COVID 19. In the event of a coronavirus outbreak, schools are closed,

and a curriculum that includes parental guidance is implemented. This will help parents in their

efforts to educate their children at home. The start of a new academic year is generally a good

time for schools to keep parents engaged in their children's education.

Government. This study may help government's educational system to prepare to make plans

for moving forward and dealing with the new normal that will emerge following the catastrophe.

Higher education must address teaching and learning continuity during and after the epidemic to

be resilient.

Students with Disabilities. This study may help those students that has special needs to get use

of distant learning by giving special education services in a unique method. That each students

could benefit from online or virtual instruction, and other curriculum-based instructional

activities.
