COMPARING AND CONTRASTING ‘’INTERSTELLAR’’ AND

‘’THE DARK KNİGHT RİSES’’ MOVIES BY CHRISTOPHER

NOLAN

Plethora movies are coming out every year; some films are very remarkable while some of are not

enough in terms of visuals and scenarios. Whether these are sufficient or insufficient these depend

on the film directors. One of the best directors in the world is Christopher Nolan, a is British film

director and writer, who is so talented and known by his visual aesthetic and unbelievable scenarios.

There are two widely known films, namely Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises. These movies

are compared and contrasted in this research.

Interstellar, a three-hours movie, is about how to save humanity from dust storms. This movie in-

cludes philosophy, science, love between father and daughter, the Cosmological Theory, amongst

others. First, the movie is philosophical, that is, the movie explains the emotion of humans by mak-

ing it more complicated than the universe itself. For example, Cooper, a father in the movie, had to

leave his daughter Murph which made some watchers to ask themself ‘’Why he had to do this?’’

which then leads us to the thought of ‘’Love is beyond time and space’’. Second, the movie ex-

plains the Cosmological Theory which Christropher Nolan explained in three ways. The first one is

Black Holes by Stephen Hawking. The university of MIT stated “The theorem predicts that the total

area of a black hole’s event horizon — and all black holes in the universe, for that matter — should

never decrease (Chu, 2021, p.1); econd one is the Fifth Dimension and the Relativity by Einstein-

the fifth dimension is a micro-dimension which is accepted in mathematics and physics (September,

2020 , p. 3). Third one is, Wormholes by Flamm Explanation of Wormhole. He described a “white

hole," as the theoretical time reversal of a black hole. Entrances to both black and white holes could

be connected by a space-time conduit. (Tillman, 2017, p.1). Christopher used Computer-Generated

Imagery (CGI) visuals to more under stable for people who do not have an idea of the theories. The

CGI creates still or animated visual content with computer software. Because of this theory you

have to use your imagination skills to complete some parts of the movie. For instance, the moment

Cooper found black hole in the space. In this part they didn’t made any explanation. One of the

reasons why is that, there is no real life explanation for this theory.

On the other hand, the movie of The Dark Knight Rises is really different from Interstellar. It in-

cludes violent, breaking rules, and beat the villain. However, like Interstellar, it has own attractive

sides like it is a successful superhero trilogy. Also, it has really good cinematography.

If I had to compare these two films I would start with the main ideas. The main idea of Interstellar

is more interesting than The Dark Knight Rises movie. One of the reasons why is that, it has an un-

usual scenario than The Dark Knight Rises. In addition, it has unusual scenario than the other movies.

Additionally, Interstellar is about saving world. However, The Dark Knight Rises is about saving city.

In Interstellar, people had to use their imagination. On the other hand, in The Dark Knight Rises peo-

ple do not need to use their imagination like the end of the Interstellar. Another example is, Inter-

stellar includes theories while Batman terminology never used theories like Interstellar. In Interstel-

lar, CGI technology is better because it is made in 2014. Unfortunately, The Dark Knight Rises made

in 2008. Interstellar do not have any violent inside of it. On the other hand, Batman trilogy is vio-

lent based.

On the other side, The Dark Knight Rises is better for one way and it is the actors. For example,

Health Ledger who is aided while playing for Batman. There are affirmations about how he adapted

the role of ‘’Joker’’ and it is that he closed himself in the house for months to understand psychol-

ogy of Joker.

Lastly, in terms of revenue generation, Interstellar made $651,994,868 revenue while The Dark

Knight Rises makes $1,082,228,107. In this result we can clearly see that how much Interstellar is

more successful in production the audience still watched The Batman Dark Knight Rises. The audi-

ence in Interstellar is bigger or knowledgeable than Batman.

To conclude, there are plethora things to compare and contrast about Interstellar and The Dark

Knight Rises movie. In my opinion, Interstellar better than Batman. Especially, its better about the

main idea.However, while I was doing this research I realized that the most important thing for me

in this comparing part was the pure love,it showed me and the audience to how to love someone

unconditionally and wait someone how long or how much it takes.
