Q. Non-verbal communication is an important part of social communication. Identify the


different types of non-verbal communication in the following parts:

(i) Identify and describe (in one or two sentences) ‘welcoming, threatening, and persuasive’

Image no.1 is identified as ‘threatening’ and it represents a person inducing someone to feel
exposed or at danger.

Image no.2 is identified as ‘persuasive’ and it represents a person who is skilled in persuading
others to do or believe something, whether via argument or the use of temptation.
Image no.3 is identified as ‘welcoming’ and it represents one’s acting in a kind or nice manner
toward a visitor or newcomer.

(ii) Touching is a type of non-verbal communication which operates at many levels.


Identify and describe (in one to two sentences) images which represent functional,
professional, socio-political, friendship-warmth, and love-intimacy levels of touch. (10)

Image no.1 is identified as ‘professional’ and it represents one’s performing a certain activity as
one's primary paid employment rather than as a recreational activity.

Image no.2 is identified as ‘socio-political’ and it represents a combination of social and political
variables.
Image no.3 is identified as ‘love-intimacy’ and it represents closeness between individuals in
intimate relationships.

Image no.4 is identified as ‘commitment level’ and it represents one’s promise to commit some
act.

Image no.5 is identified as ‘friendship-warmth’ and it represents friendship is defined as a


relationship characterised by lasting love, regard, closeness, and trust between two individuals.
Image no.6 is identified as ‘functional’ and it represents made to be functional and helpful rather
than aesthetically pleasing.

(iii) Name and describe the type of touch in the context of following images. (4)

Image no.1 is identified as ‘fighting’ and it represents weaponry or physical force in an attempt
to harm someone or defeat an adversary.

Image no.2 is identified as ‘light tickling’ and it represents tickling of this kind does not often
result in laughing and is frequently accompanied by an irritating feeling.
