We urge you to immediately rescind the draconian mask mandate and reopen the United States Capitol Building and House Office Buildings to the public. ‘The American people have the right to petition Congress and that right is not contingent upon all involved wearing a mask or being vaccinated. You have long championed the vaccine as effective at slowing the spread of COVID-19 and reducing the severity of symptoms. Every person who works in the Capitol complex has had access to the vaccine and an abundance of time to receive it. There is therefore no other excuse for your failure to reopen the complex. The U.S. Capitol belongs to the American people. Keeping it closed and thumbing your nose at all those hoping to visit only instills additional disapproval of Congress. The American people are returning to normal, and the House of Representatives should too. States like California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Nevada, New York, and Rhode Island have lifted mask mandates in recent weeks, Even Washington, D.C.’s Mayor Muriel Bowser lifted her ridiculous vaccine mandate and announced the mask mandate will soon follow. The House's mandates are anti-scienee, ineffective, and tyrannical, and they must end now. It is long past time to retum the People’s House to the American people.
