Endoscopy Training

Medical & Nursing Staff


1. Ensure can log on to computer (if password not working, IT-on-Call must be contacted – ask to be put through
by switchboard, or there may be number at nurses’ desk on the unit).
2. Email received after this training must be replied to, to both Carl.Chrystan@liverpoolft.nhs.uk and
Andrew.Goss@liverpoolft.nhs.uk, confirming you have covered this content in your training.
3. Use PENS:
a. Log into PENS.
b. Access patient record (Patient Search option > Inpatients tab > RLH Gastroenterology Unit option
> select patient).
c. Access pathway (Pathways button) and see if Endoscopy examination pathway already made.
d. Create new Endoscopy examination pathway forms (usually three to be completed).
e. Use of styluses in area for signatures.
f. Access existing form once it’s been created.
g. Importance of entering detailed handover to room details on form.
Medical Staff
1. Use ICE:
a. Log into ICE / change password / select location.
b. Locate patient record (Patient Search option > enter criteria).
c. Check alerts (triangle in banner).
d. Create order (Requesting option > New Request icon > check recent orders made > select category
(top) then select sub-category (left) then select test (centre) or use Search button > complete form).
e. Edit / cancel order (Requesting option > View Patient Requests icon).
f. View reports (Reporting option > View Patient Reports icon).
