Introduction to Religion

• Religion is the belief in someone, something or some power that is greater


than you.
• This power cannot be seen or touched and is very special or holy.
• Some religions believe that this power created the world.

How can you tell which religion a person belongs?
• People show their religious identity through clothes they wear, their hair, food
they eat, holy books they read and through their religious symbols.
• Clothes
• Sikh men wear a special head covering called a turban.

• Jewish men and boys wear a small cap on their head called a yarmulke.

• Jewish women cover their heads with a scarf when they go for prayers.
• Muslim women wear a chador. This is a dress which covers them from head
to foot, with a small opening through which they can see.

• Sikh men do not shave their beards or cut their hair.
