With the advent of web-based word processing software and with the exposure of a lot of
students in exploring new alternative media tools, explore and research on the following
online Microsoft Word Alternatives.

1. DROP BOX PAPER

-Dropbox Paper, or simply Paper, is a collaborative document-editing service developed by


Dropbox. ... Dropbox Paper was described in the official announcement post as "a flexible
workspace that brings people and ideas together. With Paper, teams can create, review,
revise, manage, and organize—all in shared documents".

2. OFFICE ONLINE

-Free, Web-based versions of Microsoft's widely used Office applications, which include
Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. Released in 2010 as Office Web Apps, Office Online
saves documents automatically to Microsoft's OneDrive cloud storage (previously SkyDrive).

3. GOOGLE DOCS

-Google Docs is a free Web-based application in which documents and spreadsheets can be
created, edited and stored online. Files can be accessed from any computer with an Internet
connection and a full-featured Web browser. ... Google Docs is compatible with most
presentation software and word processor applications.

4. ETHERPAD

-Etherpad (previously known as EtherPad) is an open-source, web-based collaborative real-


time editor, allowing authors to simultaneously edit a text document, and see all of the
participants' edits in real-time, with the ability to display each author's text in their own
color.

5. ZOHO
-Zoho Office Suite is a web-based online office suite containing word processing,
spreadsheets, presentations, databases, note-taking, wikis, web conferencing, customer
relationship management (CRM), project management, invoicing and other applications. It is
developed by Zoho Corporation.

6. OPEN OFFICE

-An open office is an open-plan work environment where there are no enclosed office rooms
or walled cubicles for employees. Usually, employees work in the same room, often beside
each other, while seated along a huge desk or on workstations positioned close together.

7. ABIWORD

-AbiWord is a free and open-source software word processor. It is written in C++ and since
version 3 it is based on GTK+ 3. The name "AbiWord" is derived from the root of the Spanish
word "abierto", meaning "open".

8. JARTE

-Jarte is a word processor for users of Microsoft Windows, based on the WordPad engine. In
terms of market appeal, Jarte is a lighter alternative to the feature laden Microsoft Word. The
standard version of Jarte is offered free of charge, while an enhanced version called Jarte Plus
may be purchased.

9. WPS OFFICE FREE 2016

-WPS Office (an acronym for Writer, Presentation and Spreadsheets, previously known as
Kingsoft Office) is an office suite for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android,
developed by Zhuhai-based Chinese software developer Kingsoft. WPS Office 2016 was
released in 2016.

10. SOFT MAKER FREE

-SoftMaker Office HD only has menus and toolbars, rather than allowing the option of menus
and toolbars or Ribbon. A free version, called SoftMaker Office HD Basic, is also available.
