Background

Narrator - It is 1950, the world is consumed in yet another world war. A British plane evacuating
children crashes. The story begins in a harrowing situation wherein two adolescents find
themselves in a completely unfamiliar environment. There is wilderness all around.

{Only Ralph, Piggy and Narrator have the camera on)

Ralph - Do you know where are we right now?

Piggy (adjusting his specs) - I am as clueless as you. Can you see anyone elderly, around?
Maybe we could take their help…There must be more people like, let us find them.

Ralph - I think all the grownups are dead… Wait, what's that floating in the sea?

Piggy: I think it's a conch. I have seen it before at my aunt’s place. It will make a deep sound if
we blow into it.

R - We can use this to gather all the survivors towards us with this.

*Blows the conch multiple times*

Narrator - As the deep baritone of the conch pierces through the serene island noise, they see
other people approaching through the lush green foliage with nature. Some of them looked like
they were soon going to step into their teens, whereas the rest were only six years old.

{Jack, Simon, Ericsam and Littlekid turn on their videos}

Ralph - Looks like even you people were on the same aircraft. Do any of you have an idea
about this place?

Piggy: *interrupts* Before that we should all introduce ourselves and have a headcount. I am
Peterkin.

Ralph - *sniggers* Everyone can call him piggy. And I am ralph, I was the one who blew the
conch (says with pride)

Jack - I am the choir prefect. Jack!

Ericsam - I am ericsam

Little kid - We are the little kids

Simon - I am simon, what were you saying about this place?

Jack - it's OBVIOUSLY an unexplored place

Ralph - If that's the case, we should appoint a leader amongst ourselves so that we can work in
a systematic manner and get all of us out of here.

Piggy (timid) - We should also have a meeting. Also, let us …..{tries to say something but is not
allowed}

Jack (arrogantly) - I am a school prefect and among all of us I am the ideal candidate for
this position. I know how to get work done and ensure there are no deadweights in the
team.

Piggy (tries again) - Let us simply have a vote. Who wants to vote for Ralph…

{Piggy, Simon, Ericsam, Little kid raise their hands}

Piggy - Besides Jack’s choir group, is there anyone who wants to vote for him?

{Nobody raises his/her hands.}

Piggy - So Ralph is our leader. Also, to avoid chaos, only the person having the conch
should have the authority to speak.

Ralph - I think that is a very valid point. Also, since we are unaware of our whereabouts, a few
of us should explore the hill that lies ahead.

Piggy - I would like to give you company..

Jack - keep your mouth Shut Piggy. You are no good. Simon and I will accompany Ralph. Let
us go boys.

{Background shows a hill and 3 people going towards its top.}

(birds noise in forest)

Narrator - The three boys explore the whole island, and then return back to others very
excitedly. On seeing them Piggy…
Piggy - We need to plan for our food, shelter, etc

Ralph - Do not worry for the food, we have it aplenty. Let us get divided into groups. We just
need people to arrange for shelter and another group to light a fire on the hill top to signal the
ship.
Ericsam - But how do we light a fire……..hmmmmm……oh yes, we could use Piggy’s specs
against the rays of the sun to light a fire . Let us gather sufficient wood to keep the fire burning.
If we see a ship pass by, we will make it more intense.

Narrator: After a few days in an assembly…

Little kid: I have something I want to say. It is very important (timid)

Ralph: (bemused). Go on.

Kid: There is a monster on the island, a beast with sharp teeth. I have seen it roaming in the
night. (impact sound)

Jack: There is no monster kid, stop being a wuss. I have gone through the whole island.

Kid: I have heard it in the night, so have the others.

R: That was just a dream, there is no beast, other than pigs. Okay. Disperse

Narrator: People disperse, there is paranoia in the air.

(video off everyone)

Air Fight Narration: (fighter plane sound)

As the boys sleep, military airplanes battle fiercely above the island. None of the boys
sees the explosions and flashes. During the battle, a parachutist drifts down from the
sky onto the island, dead. His chute becomes tangled in some rocks and flaps in the
wind, while his shape casts fearful shadows on the ground. Ericsam wakes up to the
sound of fabric ripping and is immediately frightened by what he sees and runs down
the mountain.

(E&S , Ralph, Jack, Piggy video on)

E&S - “Ralph wake up. The leaves are roaring like the sea. “
R - “What’s the matter?”
E&S - “We saw the beast. It was just as the little kid described.
The conch was blown & a meeting was called.
E&S - The beast, it's real. It's so much scarier than you can imagine.

Jack - “Ill show who is the real beast. Let’s hunt it. Who’s coming with me? “(arrogantly)
(ominous sounds)
Narrator: After scouring the whole island for the beast unsuccessfully, darkness falls,
Ralph, Jack start to climb the mountain and reach the summit.
Ralph - Over there, where there used to be a gap in the rock. A sort of hump—see?”
Jack- “ Are you scared or are you drunk? “
Jack - “There is nothing! “
Ralph - “ Theres…. a monster….

Narrator: Ralph Jack see a terrifying specter, a large, shadowy form with the shape of a
giant ape, making a strange flapping sound in the wind. Horrified, the boys hurry down
the mountain to warn the group. Jack calls for an assembly and tells the others that
there is definitely a beast on the mountain.

Piggy :Are you sure? I mean, really sure?

R: I told you a dozen times, we saw it. The beast had teeth and big black eyes. (shudders
violently)

Little kid: Do you think we are safe down here?

R: How the hell do I know (angrily and in fright).

J: Me and my hunters can take it.

R: No, you cannot, you ran as fast as me when you saw it.

J - “ Ralph is a coward. What were we thinking when we made him the leader. “ I should be the
leader.
Ericsam - “ No, this is unfair. Ralph should not be removed. “
J: I call for a vote.
Everyone- Ralph is our leader, Ralph is our leader, Ralph is our leader.

J - (embarrassed and angry)“ This is ridiculous. I can’t stay here any longer. I am leaving the
group and anyone who feels like being with these cowards. Feel free to do so. “

Lord of the flies moment

(fire sound)
Narrator: As the boys start working, some of the people leave. Simon separates from Ralph’s
group to seek solace and combat his own fears and self doubt. He enters the forest, witness the
ritual performed by Jack’s tribe as sacrifice to the beast. It is a head of a pig. As gazes upon the
severed skull being further mutilated by the flies, he enters a deep state of consciousness.

LotF: “You are a silly little boy, just an ignorant, silly little boy.

Simon - scared face (reaction)

LotF: What are you doing out here all alone? Aren’t you afraid of me? There isn’t anyone to help
you. Only me. And I’m the Beast.
Simon: You are just a pigs head on a stick

LotF: This has gone quite far enough. My poor, misguided child, do you think you know better
than I do? Do you think you will earn the respect of Ralph, Jack and the others? Mark my words
they will be the one to kill you.

Simon: You are not real. I won't let you get in my head. In Fact I won't let you play with any of
our minds. I am going to the top of the mountain.

Simon: What a fool everyone has been. It's just a dead soldier.

Narrator - On a different part of the island, Ralph, Piggy had been left alone.

Ralph - Where is ericsam? Where is everyone?

Piggy: They must have gone to Jack’s feast. They must be having a blast.

Ralph: Let them go. I dont care.

Piggy: They must be having some meat.
Ralph: putting on some war paint- and they think they are some hunters.
Piggy: “P’raps we ought to go too
Ralph: I mean—to make sure nothing happens.”

—---

Narrator: Coming down the mountain, Simon rushes towards the party. Ralph and Piggy have
joined in the revelry and participants were in a frenzy, enacting out the wild pig hunt.
Background noise: Kill the beast, cut his throat, Spill his blood.

Simon: Everyone, I have made a huge find…. There’s a dead man caught in the trees…
(inaudible).
These people are not in their senses. I need to wake them up.

(Takes the conch and blows it)

Simon: Just look at us. What have we become? We are supposed to be English.
Jack: Who are you to question me?

S: I am the one who has gone to the mountain top and uncovered the reality of the beast. The
monster you were frightened of and had offered sacrifices, is actually a dead soldier and his
parachute, stuck in the trees.
I know it has been more difficult than we imagined. All of us are scared and want to go home,
but that's okay.

R: I am not scared (exuberantly).

S: You can lie to everyone, but you cannot lie to yourself. Even I am scared, frightened of the
monsters in the dark. But we cannot give up

Look at the things we were able to do when we worked together. Jack and hunters have given
us meat and security. Ralph united and organized us to work towards escaping the island. Even
piggy with his glasses and wisdom has been instrumental to our survival. We have already lost
a few of us, soon there will be none if we stand divided.

Ralph - I think he is right.

Piggy - What have we become (in self disgust)
Jack: Why don't you tell us what we should do then? (Little combatively)

Narrator: Simon lays out his plan, assigning everyone their tasks and makes them accountable.

Ericsam: Yes, I agree with simon. He should lead us. I will follow simon.

Ralph and piggy: Yes, we agree with Simon being the new leader.

Jack - (Relenting) I guess we can do as Simon suggested.

Everyone - Chanting Simon's name….

Narration: 2 weeks go by. Suddenly…

Piggy: shipp Shipp There is a shipp

Ralph: It is coming towards us. It has seen the smoke
Ericsam: We are saved. We are saved. (screaming)
(VIDEO OFF EVERYONE)

Narration: Ship comes ashore and out comes the naval officer. The officer notices the children
break into tears on seeing him. The kids, that right..they were just all kids, between 6 and 12
years all huddled together screaming and crying in joy.
As he looks on, he's even more surprised… There were 15 neat tents set up on the beach.
Fruits and meat were gathered and organized. Firewood was stacked in bundles away from the
water. These kids had not just survived the island, but thrived.
