Dear Sir:

I’m interested in a position in your company. I’ve always wanted to work with you and I really
like banking.

I first became interested in banking when I was a child. My brothers and sisters always lost their
money, so they decided to let me keep it safe in my closet. They knew I was reliable. I’ve
worked with a lot of companies to get better at working with money, and now my father thinks
this will be a good job for me.

I really want to work with your bank because of your great reputation, your important rank in the
American banking world, and the way you behave with your customers and your employees.

I have worked with lots of different companies in the banking field. I like working with
numbers, but I also like working with people. People are fun. I am a good team worker because
I like people and I know how to listen. I also know how to give directions when I need to. I like
working on a team because it’s a little like basketball, my favorite sport. Playing on a basketball
team is like working in a bank: you have to work together to win!

Also during my studies at my university, I took a lot of classes about finance, so I think that I
will be a great financial advisor because I am good at finance. I learned a lot and my professors
were very happy with my performance. They think I am very talented. I think I am exactly what
your company needs. Also, I am really good at math, so I can compute big problems in my head
with no problem. This is important for bankers. I think I can really help your company. You
should hire me. I’m great.

I can’t wait to hear from you! I’m so excited to start working for your company!

Thanks a lot

John Andrews

Dear Ms. Foster,

I was very interested to read your advertisement for a Junior Financial Advisor in the Chicago
Office on the University of Chicago’s Career Website as it precisely fits my career plans.

I first became interested in retail banking during a course which I attended during my second
year of university. Since then, discussion with my career adviser and my own research have
confirmed my belief that this is a career that will help me to use my interest in business and
finance as well as my skills in working with people, both in an advisory and a managerial
capacity.

I am particularly interested in a career with US Bank because of the high reputation of your
training process and your commitment to giving new team members early responsibility.

During my time as a student I have had a variety of internships and work experiences, all of
which have required me to work as part of a team and to deal directly with the public. I found my
work at the Tourist Information Office particularly valuable in teaching me the importance of
determining customers' needs and providing clear and accurate information in response to those
needs.

As part of my degree, I chose to carry out a final-year project which involved a statistical
analysis of 150 questionnaires sent to local employers. To process this information, I taught
myself to set up and use a database and felt great satisfaction in completing this project. I am
confident that the experience I gained from this project is easily transferrable to the work I will
be doing with US Bank.

I will be available for interview at your convenience. I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Sincerely

John Andrews
