Title: DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF SELF LEARNING MATERIAL IN

SOLVING QUADRATICE EQUATION BY FACTORING

Short Rationale: This study aims to develop a self learning material in solving
quadratic equation by factoring in the form of a work-text that may
help teachers in presenting the lesson in a simple but concise
manner and provide relevant learning assessment tool that will
evaluate the level of understanding and cognition of the learners
appropriately. Thus, a learning assessment tool in the form of
concept cartoon that is surely stimulates thinking and reasoning
process of the learner.

Theoretical Framework: Self learning material is a teaching resource that supports instruction
or learning in the form of print, electronic, and online/internet-based
materials. Self learning theories play an important role in developing
and designing self learning-aid or materials. These theories help in
shaping and defining the outcome of the self learning material.

In developing self learning material in solving quadratic equation by

factoring, the constructivist approach was employed in this study. A
constructivist approach holds that learning is an active process of
constructing rather than acquiring knowledge, thus, instruction is a
process of supporting that construction rather than communicating
knowledge. Constructivist viewed that constructing meaning is
learning and it must be concerned with experiences and contexts
that make the student willing and able to learn.

Developed and validation of self learning material based on the

constructivist approach will lead to unique and exciting learning
environments, wherein the learners are engaged in authentic and
meaningful task.

Statement of the Problem: This research endeavored to develop and validate a self learning
material in a form of work-text that will help improve the academic
performance of the students in solving quadratic by factoring.

Specifically, it sought answers to the following questions:

1. How acceptable is the proposed instructional material in Physics 1

(Mechanics) as assessed by the experts and instructors in terms of:

1.1 objective;

1.2 content;
1.3 usefulness;

1.4 clarity;

1.5 presentation;

1.6 evaluation; and

1.7 language and style?

2. How do the students perform in the pre-test and post-test after using
the self learning material in solving quadratic equation by factoring?

3. Is there significant difference in their performance?

Short Description of the Methodology

The method of research used, the sources of data, respondents of the

study, research instrument used, data gathering procedure and the
statistical tool use in the treatment of data.

Research Design

A combination of Descriptive and Experimental Design were employed

in this study.

Research Environment

This research will be conducted in Buug National High School. It is one

of the prestigious schools in the entire Sibugay that offers a high quality
of education.

Target Participants

In determining the total sample population of the expert-instructor

respondents the study suggest that the personnel who were a member
of Quality Assurance Team of Division of Zamboanga Sibugay during the
development and validation the GIYA .

The participants of this research were the Grade 9 students of Buug

National High School who are officially enrolled for the S.Y. 2021-2022.

Data Gathering

For the evaluation of the acceptability of the proposed instructional

material and assessment of learning tool, the researcher secured a
letter of approval from the member of the Quality Assurance Team of
Division of Zamboanga Sibugay.
In gathering the data, the researchers gave a letter asking permission
from the principal of Buug National High School for the conduct of the
research. Upon the positive response of the principal, another letter
was given to the advisers and the subject teacher to inform them about
the research to be conducted. Afterwards, the students who were the
subject of the study were informed and were asked for their
participation and since all of them were underage, they were given a
letter for parent’s consent which was signed by the parents allowing
their children to participate the said research.

Research Instrument/s

The instrument used in this study were the pre-test and post test
questionnaires.
