10 TIPS ON HOW TO CONDUCT AN EFFECTIVE LESSON

1. Sing the song with a musical instrument. Stand up and use gestures and ask the
student to sing and dance along. Wear a headband with ears, horns, bows, etc.

2. If you can play a musical instrument then use it during the song or as a reward for
student lesson performance.

3. Use these sentence patterns in giving instructions: “Please say …” or “Circle the
…”/”Draw a line from… to …

4. Give your instructions in Chunks. First, circle the boy. Second, draw a line from the
boy to his toy. Third, say “This is Timmy’s robot.” "What are you going to do first?
… second? … “What are you going to say?”

5. Avoid asking “Do you understand?”, “Any questions?” or “Got it?” Ask a question
that a learner can respond to and give you information.

10 TIPS ON HOW TO CONDUCT AN EFFECTIVE LESSON

6. Make sure you’re prepared to teach – body, mind and materials. Get enough
sleep, eat, drink water and prepare your materials beforehand and have them close
to you when teaching. Review the lesson if you’re able.
7. Teacher Talking Time – The learners should try to talk more.
8. Ensure that all equipment and materials are functioning properly. The camera
and your eyes should be at the same level when you’re sitting down.

9. When you stand up, please adjust your screen.

10. Keep instructions simple – 7 words or less. If students don’t understand,

demonstrate and say them in a different way.
