Tutorial 5

3. Have you ever experienced inequity in a job or a class? How did it affect you?

Yes, I have worked as a part-timer for that company for more than a year but receive lower
pay compared to another worker who joined recently that does not have any experience in the
relevant industry. I feel inequality in the workplace due to being unfairly treated. The feeling
of jealousy and demotivation covers my mind which may reduce productivity.

4. Which is likely to be a more serious problem-perceptions of being under-rewarded or

perceptions of being over-rewarded?

Under-rewarded refers to when the employees believe their remuneration and recognition are
less than their contribution merits, compared with other employees. While over-rewarded
refers to the condition when the employees believe that their remuneration and recognition
are greater than their contribution merits.

I think that under-rewarded would be a more serious problem where the employees are
expected to be less productive.  For example, an employee who feels underpaid at work
compared to his co-workers (under-rewarded) might start taking longer breaks which
decreases productivity in the workplace.
