Affirmative action in education has always been a highly controversial issue.

With the

Supreme Court case, Fisher v. University of Texas, well underway, with the potential to end

affirmative action in higher education or support it for future generations, debate over the

necessity and ethics of affirmative action has been renewed. With affirmative action in peril, so

is many minorities’ hope of achieving the American Dream. Education is the key to a successful

career, happy life, and mobility in the social ladder. Historically, affirmative action has equalized

the playing field for minorities by granting them access to higher education in greater numbers.

But in recent times, people have begun to question if affirmative action policies are still relevant

or even ethical in modern society. Despite many advances in achieving equality in education,

affirmative action still plays a necessary role in helping minorities achieve the American Dream

while also adhering to the ethics of modern society.
