Sexual harassment in the workplace refers to a verbal or physical act with a sexual nature,

performed in the workplace by a boss, manager, employee, client or customer in a working


unit, that is unwelcomed by the person receiving it and has caused the person to feel violated,
insulted, and being in an uncomfortable environment. This act does not distinguish between
male and female or their races and religion. In the 2019 YouGov Omnibus survey, over 36%
of Malaysian women and 17% of Malaysian men have experienced sexual harassment.
Hence, I agree that companies should be concerned about this issue and taking out ways to
prevent this sexual harassment.

Firstly, company should establish specific bylaws on the prevention of sexual


harassment in the workplace. As a leader of a company, we can set up detailed punishments
to whom that exercise sexual harassment. Legal actions should be taken to the perpetrator
depends on his or her behaviour. Hence, bylaws should be set up in the workplace to prevent
sexual harassment.

Besides that, the leader of the company should also set up a dedicated organization to
deal on this sexual harassment problem. This special organization can be set up in the human
resource department who is specialized in helping victims and report any harassment
behaviour. This organization should act as a role model to the employee for the prevention of
sexual harassment. Thus, this may decrease the happening of sexual harassment in the
workplace.

Furthermore, training campaigns on the prevention of sexual harassment should be


launch. Company should ensure all employees to attend regular training programmes on the
prevention of sexual harassment. These programmes should be available on both online and
physical site. Employees should have more understanding on what is sexual harassment and
how to deal with it after attending these programmes. Hence, training campaigns is one of the
ways to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.

As conclusion, sexual harassment in a workplace should be concerned as it brings


negative effects to the employees and the company. Company should be aware and take
actions to prevent sexual harassment to happen in the workplace.
