The movie, The Monuments Men, covers a dark time in history,

, the true significance of art and culture is shown when two members of the monuments men
enter a standoff with a German soldier
This one name a part of a universal culture allows all of the members of the standoff to
understand each other despite their language barrier. This incident reflects how the dialogue of
the film affects the film and is crucial in showing the theme of sacrificing oneself for culture and
history. However, without trust in the characters or proper character development, the dialogue
they engage in is ineffective.

The overarching theme of whether art is worth the lives of humans constantly presents itself as
members of the crew of monuments men face difficult situations. These themes are presented
throughout the film in a multitude of ways which collectively push the film into the realm of
extraordinary.

Many of the scenes were shot in Allied force encampments or in cities across the world. With
this setting of the film, the cast is able to add main themes of the crew’s valiant efforts for the
benefit of all of humankind through scenes filled with light at moments of discovering troves of
lost art. During different portions of the film the gloominess of the war shows through scenes
shot within mines or cavernous places.
Whatever these paintings may have been to man who looked at them a generation back-today
they are not only woks of art. Today they are symbols of human spirit, and of the world the
freedom of the human spirit made...To accept this work today is to assert the purpose of the
people of America that the freedom of the human spirit and the human mind which has produced
the world's great art and all its science- shall not be destroyed."

Without The Monuments Men, many pieces of priceless art would be either destroyed, or in the
Fuhrermuseum, which because of these people, does not exist. These unappreciated heroes of
World War II protected the things that make up most of the European culture. They helped return
some of the greatest creations known to man to their rightful owners. That is how The
Monuments Men Influenced our world today.
