ACTIVITIES/EXERCISES

• Pick a company and find the most benefits information and list out those
benefits. Estimate the approximate worth of those benefits. Calculate the
total worth of an entry-level job (salary plus benefits).

ANS: I picked the company San Miguel Corporation and their employee
benefits are; paid sick leave, paid holidays/vacation, life insurance/disability,
cellphone, education/training/tuition/certification reimbursement, casual
wear/atmosphere, gym/Health Club/Fitness Membership. And in case of
financial emergency, the company offers leans to employees without
interest. Even during pandemic, SMC was able to assure their employees a
full-time pay during ECQ and even gave non-office workers a cash support
for their own families and besides, the SMC also have provided aid worth P 1
Billion since the corona virus crisis hit the Philippines. The entry-level job
average salary in office workers of P 15,979 per month and the benefits
depends upon the contract.
• Talk to an adult about any company benefits he or she may have.
Ask if this person had a choice over any of the benefits and, if so,
what influenced his or her final decisions about the job and benefits.

ANS: I have talked to my mom who used to work at Philippine National bank
formerly called “Allied Banking Corporation”. My mom did have a choice over
her employee benefits so she some of the benefits she had were the MOD
allowance (Medical, Optal, Dental), perfect attendance allowance, quarterly
bonuses,13-month pay and so on. My mom said that what influenced her
final decisions about the job and the benefits is that it was my gradndpa’s
suggestion to my mom as the company has offered such good benefits and
my mom said it is also because of God’s guidance.

• List at least three companies or organizations for which you would
consider working. Go online and search for the companies’ websites
(or interview a local employer) to learn about what employee
benefits the company provides.

ANS: The first company I consider, of course it is San Miguel Corporation,

since SMC had been around for a very long time and is one of the most
popular company as it is the Philippine’s largest company in the field of food,
beverage and packaging. It boasts of great pay and benefits. The second one
is Coca-Cola Philippines in which the company is well-known for granting the
most-desirable comprehensive benefits packages for their workers and the
pay is very competitive and it is a company that is good for people who
search for career growth. The third or the last company is SM Investments
Corporation, this company have a lot of benefits and perks for their
employees. And as for the regular employees, they are appraised yearly and
are encouraged to participate in different health wellness activities like fun
runs, also arts and creativity programs.

What additional benefits will you want when considering future
jobs?

ANS: The employee benefits that I think is particularly important to me right

Motivation is something that enables an individual to do things more
willingly. A worker in an organization that have a source of their motivation to
work harder, they usually work more diligently. In cases of Filipino Families,
Filipinos tend to work harder to support their families’ needs, education, food
and shelter. Many Filipinos have bad health due to over fatigue as for many
of us had been working 24/7 to earn more money. They may have been
working diligently but they are not able to protect themselves as their health
is greatly affected by their unhealthy performance at work.

2. How does adopting a Total Rewards perspective benefit the

employee and the organization?

A total rewards perspective benefits the employee in a way an

employee can be confident that they can actually lean on the company
they’ve been working on. This type of packaged benefits can help the
employee be comfortable while working knowing that they can have such
benefits if they work accordingly and diligently.

3. What are the advantages and pitfalls of using a flexible benefits

program?

The advantages of using flexible benefits program are that they can
attract more employees to work for their company, the benefits can motivate
an employee to work harder and the benefits may be an advantage for the
overall growth of the company. The disadvantages of using a flexible benefits
program are the employees may tend to be more dependent on the
company and some may abuse the flexible benefits program that was
offered upon them on their employee and employer contract.
