INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE GENERAL PLACEMENT TEST

This placement test has been designed for placing students into groups according to
the levels corresponding to CEFR levels A1 to C1.

Students with no previous English knowledge should not take this test. It is advisable
that they start a beginner course.

This test consists of 60 multiple-choice questions of grammar and vocabulary, and as

the test progresses the questions will become more difficult. Each question is worth
one point.

Deciding Students’ Levels

Use the GENERAL placement test conversion table to decide which level your students
are at. Placement according to the placement test scores is based on the assumption
that your students attempt to answer all the questions. You may want to split the
scores in each band into two, so that you can place students at the beginning or
halfway through the book.

#InstaEnglish covers the first three stages of the CEFR, from A1 to B1. Therefore, if the
student scores higher than 40 points, he or she may be eligible for enrolling at a higher
level.
