CHAPTER II

Research Methodology

This chapter presents the description of the research process. It provides information
concerning the method was used in undertaking this research as well as a justification for
they use of this method. The chapter also describes the various stages of the research,
which includes the selection of participants, the data collection process and the process of
data analysis.

Method

The case study method was used in this study it is well suited in answering the research
questions appropriately and adequately. The strength of the case study method is it allows
for the examination of the phenomenon in depth using various kinds of evidence obtained
from interviews with those involved, direct observation of events and analysis of
documents and artifacts (yin 2003). Also the case study was used because the focus of the
study is more to describe and explain rather than prediction, and the variable studied is not
easily unidentifiable or embedded in the phenomenon to be extracted for study (Merriam
1998). In addition, the case study allows for empirical inquiry of phenomenon within its
real life context, especially when the boundaries between phenomenon and context are not
clearly evident (yin, 2003).

The qualitative phase involved a case study specifically, a two level case study was utilized.
The first level, involving the choice of the journal represented an instrumental case design,
a particular case is examined primarily to provide insights into an issue such that the case
is of secondary interest, playing supportive role. In this investigation, it was expected that
the case would facilitate understanding of the generalization practices of some qualitative
researchers.

Environment

University of the Visayas-Mandaue is established in the year 1919 and located at 225
Plaridel Street Mandaue City, 6014, Cebu the target of this study to set them of our main
target is to evaluate the effects of tardiness to senior high students so that we can gather,
focus and details to be able to obtained the documents that would help us identify the
effects of tardiness to education.

Participants

For this study, senior high students, mostly 16 to 18 years of age will be interviewed. The
students were actively recruited. Both women and men will answer the questionnaires.
Participants in this age group will be able to recall their school experiences as well as the
feelings those experiences evoked and the impact that the experiences may have on their
overall experience in school.

Data Gathering

The researcher decided to have an action of the chosen respondents. The survey will help
us verify our conclusions and furthermore makes complimentary conclusion.

The interviewee will be surveyed and observe with their permission. Some notes will be
taken by the researcher in order to assist in accuracy and transcription, but the note taking
will be limited to allow the researcher to focus on the participants and their answer to the
prompts. The transcription will be analyzed using the comparative method.

These comparisons will be conducted throughout the data collection processes so as to

inform collection of further data. This means of analyzing data allows the researchers to
refine survey questions and observation as needed and to focus in on responses that are
comparable to incidents described by either other participants of the same participants.

Instruments

The questionnaire was developed in order to identify potential participants. The responses
of the participants provided insight as to who met the criteria of having experienced to
importance of the education, either directly or indirectly.
