PROFESSIONAL GROWTH PLAN

a) What is a professional goal that you hold for yourself in this, this school
year?
My professional goal for the 2021-2022 year is to successfully utilize appropriate
Early Literacy Intervention assessment practices. This will allow me to continuously
track students progress, guide mini lessons, and communicate strengths/areas of
focus to students, parents, and teachers.

b) What are some of the strategies you will employ to help you achieve this
goal?

Teacher Communication
Keeping up my communication with teachers will help ensure my running records are
as accurate as possible. Talking with classroom teachers regularly allows me to:
- Learn more about the students work habits, behaviors, strengths,
weaknesses
- Communicate any important situations

Parent Relationship
Establishing a relationship with parents will be done by keeping communication
continuous and always open. If parents are more involved, it will hopefully help with
consistent reading at home. This will improve my running records because if
students are reading their books at home, I can then do the “previous days
section” with students, checking for comprehension.

Timing
Sticking to the lesson plan timing provided for me will give myself and my students
enough time to complete running records in the most productive way possible.

Self-Reflection
Reflecting on my assessment practices will be a key contributor to allowing me to
achieve this goal. With daily self-reflection I can see where/how my assessments
are guiding my mini lessons and it will allow me to reflect on what parts I can
change to better my assessment practice in the future with ELI students.

Observing Other ELI Teachers


By watching different videos on the ELI google drive I will be able to see how
other teachers have completed their running records. This will help me to see the
best practices to use but it will also help me see the different types of ways
previous teachers have done running records.

c) How will you know when you’ve been successful? What will the effect of
your success be on you, your students, your peers?

Mid Term Reports


These reports will demonstrate progress students are making, but it will also be
aligned with my running records. Ensuring my running records are done thoroughly
will help me when it comes time to do my mid term reports.

Post Assessment tests


These tests will demonstrate students overall progress which will in turn show the
effectiveness of my use of ELI assessment practices throughout the year.

Observations
Students will start to become independent readers. I will be able to observe this
through daily ELI sessions, parents/teacher comments, as well as when I am doing
my running records.

d) What measures will you use to assess your progress toward this goal?

Parent communication
By keeping up communication with parents I will also be able to see how students
are progressing outside of ELI sessions, which will help me to see if my anecdotal
notes match or don’t match what the parent is telling me.

Constructive Feedback
Being observed and/or sending videos into Deb, Sue, and Holly will provide me with
the feedback to ensure I am doing running records in the best way.

Pre Assessments/Mid term reports


I will use pre assessments and midterm reports to see how my running records are
going. In order to complete the midterm report I need to be able to see where my
students are going. When I complete these I will be able to see what parts of my
running record I can do better on to improve my assessment practice.
Furthermore, when doing mid term reports my pre assessments will be utilized.
From there I can identify my strengths and weaknesses of the pre assessment and
what I can improve on.

Self Evaluations
Self-evaluations will help me to see where I can improve but also where my
strengths are. I think this is important because as a teacher self-reflection is an
essential component to my professional development.

e) Name one or more colleagues upon whom you will call for support, advice or
assistance as you reach for this professional goal.
I will utilize Deb, Holly, and Sue for support, advice, and assistance with reaching
my goal. I will also make sure to access support from my Early Literacy
Intervention team including previous teachers videos that are on the shared google
drive.
