Making a Switchboard

To get a programmer and user interface, you set up a switchboard as a menu for your
endusers. The steps for setting up switchboard are as follows:

I. You can set up a macro to run a table, form, or report. This allows the data to be re-
calculated or updated.

1. Click Create / Macro

2. Choose the Action

3. Select the area below, select the name for the query or form or table. In this example, we
want to use Query 1, which we will select for the Query Name.

4. Click the X in to top right hand corner to close the screen and Save the macro.

5. You can repeat this for the queries, forms and reports that you need on your switchboard.

II. Create a switchboard.

1. Click Database Tools / Switchboard Manager.

2. Click Yes

3. Click Edit

4. Click New

5. Next to Text, type information that will show on screen. You can type the text below for
Query 1.

6. Select Run Macro for Command and the name of the query (Query1) next to Macro.
Then click OK.

7. Click OK

8. Make another New item. Enter ‘Back to Main’ for Text, and select ‘Exit Application’ for
Command. Click OK.

9. Close the two windows.

10. To run the switchboard, double click on the SwitchBoard in the Forms area of Access.

11. If you see the following switchboard with your menu options missing…

13. It is usually located below the ribbon:

14. Click on the Options and select ‘Enable this content’. Click OK.

15. Double click on the Switchboard again to open it:
