Clare ‘PS (065) 29611 - Telex: 26802 (VITA El) - Fax: (065) 29269 ‘The Vitaigraph-alpha detects the flow of expired sir using a Lily Pheumotachegraph type flowhead connected to one side of a diferentil pressure transducer. The back pressure created by the resistance of the mesh is ‘rancterred to the proceuro traneducer via the Pitot Tube ard a Hexible pipe, ere ain PATH \ PrOTTUBE RESISTIVE MES ‘The output voltage from the pressure transducer is proportional to the flow through the flewhead. Durieg tasting, the flow eignals are integraied te ‘obtain measured volumes; these are displayed on the screen & the end ot each test, alongside predicted values. The test results may be printed out subsoquerty, if required. This routine allows the user 10 simoly check. and adjust if necessary, the calforation of the instument. The ectual adjustment, if made, Is carried out totally by control from the keyboard and no actual mechanical adjustment is necessary. The revised calbration is ratcined untl cltored again, even when the machine is switched oft. Fo To perform the accuracy check/calibration a precision syringe is required. Bolero attempting calibration it is essential that the flowhoad and syringe ai ambiert rom temperature. Blowing thrcugh the flownead raises its temperature. If the tlowhead has recently bean biown through by @ patient prior t9 calibration, then the temperature must ke lowered to ambient by pumping room air through it prior te accuracy check using the sy 3 ACCURACY CHECK! CALIBRATION Recommended Calibration Procedure 1. I's Important to pump 10 ftros (apprex) of alr threugh the flowhead prler to commencing this procedure, 2 The user Is asced to enter the ambient tenpperetute, THIS MUST BE MEASURED ACCURATELY BEFORE ENTERING. 3. Air must be pumped threugh ‘he flownead when requested en the ‘sorcen. The air must be purrped through the flowhead for at least one ‘cond continuously or itwil be ignored. 4. At the end of the first stoke of the syringe. the user may ext the routine or pump mero alrto increase the calibration volume 5. Ia second strcke of the syringe Is to be performed it is important to wait for at least half a second after the syringe fils, This allows the system to sete, 6 Strokes af the syringe may be ropeated up to @ maximum displayed volume of 9.991, 7. Wnen ne ar pumpng routine is exited the measured volume is displayed and the user is requested to enter the setual total volume: pumped. This is then compared wilh the measured valle ard a ference indications cisplayed. 8 The user is then offered the chance to change the calbration. This is only necessary IF THE ERROR IS GREATER THAN 3%. 9 Once the check or adjustment is completed a Calbration Report Is printed, 4. Caretully examine all the interconnecting cables and make sure that they are fully inserted into the various eockers PowerSAFE Supply Voltage: Using @ voltmeter, with the negative input on zero (1P12), measure the Votage at the input connection to the PCB, This is marked on the PCB as UP +. The votage here should be asproximately 8.5 volts. If this voltage is "oi present check for fautly connections at the power input socket ono switen Ht the PowerSAFE supply votage is correct then proveed to check the nist switch. Place switch in OFF postion and wth the voltmeiar on zero vols (TP12) check that supply voltage Is present at pin t of the switch, Operate the switch and the supply vollge should appear at pin 2 of the switch Hl the eupply voltage is not present then a faulty switch is indicated Intornal Power Supplies (Check that the power supply vallages generated on the PCE are correct These are measured between the zero vot test point (TP12) and postions on the board marked with the relevant volages. Contrast Potentiometer This cevice is designated RV2 on the PCB. To check thal it is working correctly, switch off the instrument ahd disconnect the power connector from the PowerSAFE and remove the display ribbon connector from PLA. With an ohm mater measure the resistance of the potentiometer between its orice connection and the -12 volt position marked on the PCB, Rotate the control kno’a and the reading on the ohm meter should vary from ‘approximately zero ohms to 22 kilchms. Ifthe roading is a fied value of 22 bilohms wherever the control 's sei or the reading is erratic then the potentiometer should be replaced. NB. Recennect the display risbon connector after corrpleting his test Printer lf the printer motor runs when the machine Is required to erirt cut test information but the paper remains blank then check the 6 voit printer head supply @8 mentioned in the paragraph “Internal Power Supplies”. If the unity of the prin-out has became poor is. alpha numeric characters aro ‘ot totally bold and the vertical graph ax’s have become "broken" lines then the printer head may have beceme fauly and the printer PCB will recuire replacemet. NB. Never pertorm a print-out without paper in the printer mectanism or permanent damage will result immediately 15 Erratic Test Results IW the spiremetor is producing erronecus test results this may be caused by the wimming capacitors breaking free trem their solder posts. Check that the ‘we capaciors mounted on solder pins, CT1 and CT2 near he ‘transducer boey, are properly connected. ‘Also check that the screws holding tho proscure ttansducor to the PCB have net become loose, m 20302 © Peedatre Noutnpiece Adaptor CONSUMABLES 20202 Paediatric Mouthpieces (bex of 400) AND ACCESSORIES | 2020; carcboard Mouthoieces (ox of 200) 42085 COMPACT Mouthpieces (pack of 200) 20303 Nese Cliss (pack of 10) 20408 tlle Precision Syringe 44057 Resistive Elements (pack of §) 44058 ——_‘Tharmal Prntar Paper (5 rol) SOFTWARE CARTRIDGES 44125 Standare Program : 44128 Flow Volume Program 4413) Pre/Post Program 8 CLEANING!
