ABSTRACT
Risma, 2021. Changes in the Use of Paddy Fields to Settlements 2009-2019 in
Bantimurung District, Maros Regency. Thesis, Department of Geography, Faculty of
Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Makassar State University (Supervised by Dr.
Maddatuang, M.Si. and Abd. Malik, S.T, M.Si, Ph.D).
This research is a mixed method research which aims to determine the extent of changes in
the use of paddy fields into residential land, to determine the change in the area of use of
paddy fields into residential areas, to determine the factors that influence and the impact of
changes in the use of paddy fields to residential land in Bantimurung District, Kabupataen.
Maros. The data collection methods used were observation, questionnaires, interviews and
documentation. The data analysis used is the overlay analysis for changes in the area of
paddy fields to settlements and their dividends and for the factors that influence changes in
land use from paddy fields to residential areas and the impact of land changes, interactive
analysis is used by Miles and Huberman. Based on the results of the study, it was
concluded that the change in the total area of paddy fields in Bantimurung District 2009-
2019 was 208 hectares, while the change of paddy fields to settlements was 115 hectares.
And as many as 93 hectares of other land uses. Changes in the decrease in rice field area
occurred in all villages in the subdistrict. The factors that affect the change in the area of
paddy fields into settlements are (1) demographic conditions, (2) economic conditions, (3)
financial conditions of land owners, and (4) government policies. The impact of changing
paddy fields into residential land in Bantimurung District, Maros Regency, namely: (1)
Dense population, (2) Reduced rice production, (3) Reduced farmer income, (4) Increased
food prices. Suggestions put forward in this study are to determine areas of productive rice
fields to be protected so that people do not easily change their paddy fields.
