Pre-Lesson (Starter) :
1. Hold up the book on the board. Tell pupils that they will listen to and read a story with the title ‘Charlie’s
Birthday Surprise 1. Tell pupils that the theme for today’s lesson is ‘Magic’. Ask pupils to look at the pictures and
guess what the story going to be about. Elicit answers from pupils.

Lesson Development :
2. Play the CD and point to each frame on the board. Encourage pupils to point to each frame in their books.
3. Check pupils’ predictions.
4. Play the CD again and invite pupils to shadow read. Play the CD again, pausing after each line. Have pupils
repeat chorally in groups.
5. Ask pupils comprehension questions.
6. Divide pupils into groups of four and have them act out the story. Tell pupils to swap roles. Have some groups
ACTIVITIES perform for the whole class. (Assessment)
7. Divide pupils into two groups. Have pupil in group 1 stand up and present the pictures of their favourite sport
to the other group. Then, pupil of group 2 take turns describing the sports in the picture they’ve drawn.

Post-Lesson (Plenary) :
8. In groups, ask pupils to discuss and decide what other sounds they can hear from the objects in the poem
(seashell, eggshell, hollow coconut, teacup).
9. Then, ask pupils to rewrite any one stanza of the poem, with the new sound that they hear.
Example: I listened to a coconut
and thought I could hear
the sound of a fish swimming
inside my ear.
10.Have pupils recite their new stanza in front of the class.
