Gift of life

Impaired but gifted, they are handicapped but they make a sound. They might be
impaired but they are people who inspires the world. As someone who loves music and
have talent for music, I tend to love music from Andrea Bocelli and Stevie Wonder. They
might be blind but it doesn’t stop them from singing and loving music.

Andrea Bocelli is one of the greatest people on the planet who has a gift for
singing. He is one of the famous tenors with a voice that is recognized around the world,
he also learned to play piano, flute and saxophone. Andrea Bocelli was born in Italy,
despite of being blind he learned and speak two languages fluently – Italian and
English. From what I read on an interview about him, Bocelli doesn’t like mentioning “B
word” because he doesn’t limit his self for what he is. Being blind has not been a
struggle for him, because he keeps his faith and believes that it is a grace of God.

Stevie Wonder, one of the most well-known musicians whose career has
influenced the music industry in the America. Like Andrea Bocelli, he is also visually
impaired. He was born blind and grew up without a complete family. Wonder is still up
today, and he is also a good role model to look up to since he never gave up. When the
odds were stacked against him as a child, he thrived. People assumed he'd never make
it because of who he was a blind and a blind man, but he persisted. He showed to
everyone that dreams can be fulfilled if you strive enough, whatever of how they begin,
because some may simply have to work harder than others to accomplish the same
dreams, but it is possible for everyone. In addition to his hard work, he continues to give
back and people like him to enjoy their lives to the fullest like he did, and he is still doing
so.

Before, when I listen to their music and watch their past performances on
YouTube I didn’t know they are blind - I thought it’s just how they perform music. When I
get to know them more and read more articles about them, I’m amazed of what kind of
people they are. Sometimes I used to think and feel insecure to people who are very
confident to what they are doing. People knew me as a shy person and most of the
times I only sing to the people who were very close to me. Bocelli and Stevie made me
realize something, that you shouldn’t limit yourself for the things you love – you
shouldn’t mind those who will judge you, mind those people who supports and believe in
you. It may be hard to do all things but take little steps. I should continue what I was
doing before record and cover some songs and share it with others like uploading it on
social media like Soundcloud or Instagram. I admit that I’m a blessed person, I don’t
have any impairments and I can do all things all by myself. We have piano and kalimba
at home but I give up learning on it because I find it hard to play - I take it for granted
and it shouldn’t be that the way. As what Stevie Wonder say “time is long but life is
short...”, we must use our time here well. Give impact to other’s life, live your life, do
what you can - because others weren’t able to live their life well until their last breath.

We are all special - some people have skills that others do not, and the same is
true for us. We must keep it in mind that we all have trouble we wish to overcome or
goals we want to achieve. They are something that we are striving for, no matter how
big or tiny. We must be proud of who you are and what we have accomplished; it is a
difficult world out there, and having a disability can make it even more difficult but they
still make it. This life is full of gives and takes. Give thanks, love, and don't take anything
for granted.
