Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the TLE 10 – Technical Drafting Module on Drafting

electrical and electronic layout and details using CAD!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed
by its Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou
Concepcion A. Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig
through its mayor, Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized
the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential
Learning Competencies (MELC) in developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and

independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also
aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5
Cs, namely: Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and
Character while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box
in the body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use

this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to
encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:

Welcome to the TLE 10 – Technical Drafting Module on Drafting

electrical and electronic layout and details using CAD!

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time.
You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while
being an active learner.

This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:

LESSON 5: DRAFTING ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC LAYOUT AND

DETAILS USING CAD
LO5.2 DRAFT AUXILIARY SYSTEM AND LAYOUT

LO5.2.18 FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

What is a Fire Alarm System?

A fire alarm system is a mechanism of different interconnected devices and

components used to alert us in case of emergency especially fire to protect the
staff and general public by taking appropriate actions. It has a number of
devices working together to detect and warn people through visual and audio
appliances. It is designed to detect the unwanted presence of fire by
monitoring environmental changes associated with combustion.

Fire alarm system is the combination of different components such as:

a. smoke detector - is a fire protection device that is used to detect smoke
or gasses produced by smoldering fire particles of combustion.
b. heat detector - is a fire alarm device designed to respond when the
convected thermal energy of a fire increases the temperature of
a heat sensitive element.
8

c. carbon monoxide detector - They

work much like your fire or smoke alarm
by sounding a siren when they detect
carbon monoxide.
d. multi sensor detector
e. call points
f. sounders
g. bells
h. relay module
i. repeater
j. annunciator
k. fire control panel, and
l. other related and optional security
devices designed for fire alarm control
system.
m. sprinkler systems - is a fire
protection device that discharges water
when the effects of a fire have been
detected, such as when a predetermined
temperature has been reached.
Like a CPU (central processing unit) in a
computer system, the fire alarm control
panel is the brain of fire alarm system
which sends a status indication and
notification to the connected detectors
and sounders in case of manual or
automatic operation.

Basically, there are two categories of

protection for which fire alarm systems are
employed, Property Protection and Life Protection. The
main purpose of a fire alarm system is to protect the
wealth, health and life of individual or society.

Key Elements
Occupants of the building must be aware of the current
applicable regulations (fire code). Examples of such
include, but are not limited to the following:
• Placing and maintaining fire extinguishers in easily
accessible places.
• Properly storing/using hazardous materials into a safest place.
• Prohibiting flammable materials in certain areas of the facility.
9

• Maintaining fire alarm system for detection and warning.

• Maintaining proper fire exit and proper exit signage.
• Maintaining a high level of awareness of occupants and users of the
building to avoid obvious mistakes.
