Internet of Things

(IoT)
What is IoT?
2

It is a giant network of
connected devices. They
gather and share data on
how they are used in the
environment.

3
IoT (Internet of Things)
◎ The internet of things (IoT) is a
computing concept that
describes the idea of everyday
physical objects being
connected to the internet and
being able to identify
themselves to other devices.

4
◎ The term is closely identified
with RFID as the method of
communication, although it
also may include other sensor
technologies, wireless
technologies or QR codes.

Examples of IoT
6
Smart Homes
▪ The cost of owning a
house is the biggest
expense in a
homeowner’s life.
Smart Home products
are promised to save
time, energy and
money.
7
Smart Cities
◎ Smart surveillance,
automated transportation,
smarter energy
management systems,
water distribution, urban
security and environmental
monitoring all are examples
of internet of things
applications for smart cities.
8
IoT in Agriculture
◎ Farmers are using
meaningful insights from
the data to yield better
return on investment.
Sensing for soil moisture
and nutrients, controlling
water usage for plant
growth and determining
custom fertilizer are some
simple uses of IoT. 9
Wearables
◎ Wearable devices are
installed with sensors and
softwares which collect
data and information
about the users. This
data is later pre-
processed to extract
essential insights about
user. 10
Connected Cars
◎ A connected car is a
vehicle which is able to
optimize it’s own
operation, maintenance
as well as comfort of
passengers using
onboard sensors and
internet connectivity.

Importance to our
Future Career
18
As a future health team member, internet of things will be a
great help for us in a way that it can make our work and tasts
easier in order for us to save time and energy and to operate
more efficiently and to have more patient to patient
interaction. Internet of things can help us transfer data about
our patients without human-human interaction. From this,we,
the health team members can easily access information from
anywhere at anytime on any device and we would know where
things should be done. Through the help of the sensors, we
can be able to communicate at real time and would be able to
access and use them quickly.
