Abstract:
The Barangay Disaster Preparedness Monitoring Web Application System is a web application
system that will be used by the Department of Interior and Local Government in the Philippines.
It is used to standardize data collection of barangay disaster preparedness information at
the barangay level, provide a more efficient reporting system for the DILG Field Officers from
the cities and municipalities and to have a monitoring tool and automatic consolidation of
data at the national level. This system uses an open source Relational Database
Management System (RDBMS) and adapts the Philippine Standard Geographic Code
data at the national level. This system will provide the DILG management a real-time scenario
on barangay preparedness through data visualization.
Recommendation:
The Barangay Disaster Preparedness Web Application System was developed to have a
central repository of data on disaster preparedness. Data visualization presented shows that
at the level of national management, it helps in the monitoring of compliance of disaster
preparedness of the barangays. However, the study lacks the geographical representation
that would show the relation of barangay disaster preparedness data against the existing
hazard geographical maps of the Philippines. Further studies are necessary in the long term
to deal with the questions on: How are the barangays are prone to disaster? Are they
prepared for such disasters? And how should they prepare in the future? These are the
other questions that should be addressed in future studies. Therefore, it is recommended
that this study can serve as a basis to help the management in determining the barangay’s
readiness in the event of a disaster.
Title of the Study: AppLERT: A mobile application for incident and disaster notification for Metro
Manila
Link: AppLERT_A_mobile_app
Abstract:
The Philippines is battered by different natural and man-made disasters. It cannot be disputed
that despite its magnificent and natural beauty, the country suffers from these devastations.
Although the government has set in mitigation and prevention plans, little is put into
consideration when the disaster happens. The paper focuses on the application of Information
Communications Technology (ICT) in a form of an android based mobile application that gives
victims the capability to seek help when a disaster or incident strikes. In addition, people can
notify others of the danger ahead through AppLERT and Facebook so that they can avoid the
area where the danger is through crowdsourcing. It seeks to help expedite the response time of
the responding unit using the user’s mobile phone built-in GPS.
Recommendation:
As for the recommendations, the system can be integrated with real time mapping for
emergency incidents not only locating a user in need but also allowing posting of
warnings/reports of incidents occurring along streets and places allowing them to get to safety
through the app and Facebook. The Mapping can provide visualization techniques applied in
emergency cases and other common environments and phases where they are needed. For
future works, it is greatly suggested the testing of the application in a community to see the
effectiveness and efficiency of the system. The paper has presented a development of an
application which could be utilized during disasters. Integrating such platform, as indicated in
literatures, could be used as part of a bigger disaster preparedness and mitigation planning.

Abstract: With the availability of vaccines given freely by the government for immunization,
it is still a question as to why the goal of 100% fully immunized child (FIC) status has yet to be
reached. Hence, an android application was created, designed and developed to help increase
the immunization rate specifically in Iligan City which only has 81.01% or 7,509 out of 9269 total
eligible population. This mobile application was tested for its acceptability among nurses,
midwives, and/or Barangay Health workers in ten different Barangay Health Centers in
Iligan City. This was done in three phases; the orientation phase, implementation phase,
and evaluation phase. Results showed that the application was strongly beneficial
(Median=4) to them with an extreme ease of use (Median=6.75). They were also very
satisfied (Median=1) with its performance. The findings of this study have proved to be
promising in improving monitoring of immunization status and compliance. The android
application is of great contribution and has guaranteed a time-saving, cost-effective way in
productivity and delivery of safe, quality care.
