Management Plan

This is up to date. What

needs to be done to finish
the autumn/winter cutting-
back work is timed for mid to
late February to allow birds
to make the most of berries
and other food stuff. This
includes work on the thicket
in Hemmings Corner and the
Welbeck Road hedge.

One of the last jobs tackled

in 2021 was clearing the
Orchard and this was
completed in December.
Some pruning work will need
to be carried out once we
have received official
Planning Approval.

Orchard Cleared and Ready for Pruning

The Meadow
The frosty weather at the
beginning of the year is just
what we need to ensure that
the Yellow Rattle seed sown
directly into the ground last
year has the best chance of
germinating.

It’s also good for the seed sown

as part of the The Rattle Plug
Plant Project. We now have 13
trays sown with grass and Rattle
seed. Some of this seed had
been artificially chilled in a
refrigerator before sowing.

Re-planting Trees

Quotes were received for 2 x

Field Maple and 1 x Bird Cherry
in late autumn and a provisional
order made. The intention was
to plant these early in 2022.
The Maples are to be planted to
replace two trees removed from
the Donkey Steps boundary at
the beginning of 2021.
The Bird Cherry is to replace the
windthrown tree that grew near
the Cemetery.
Work has started to dig the
holes along the Steps boundary
as this area is full of tree roots
from the mature trees growing
along that hedgerow.

Sign Post Renovation
Work has paused on this project during the winter months. The actual “finger” signs and finial are all finished,
but the actual post still needs rubbing down & painting.

Carving
Because the carving has been
treated with preservative
twice each year it is in good
condition. The same cannot be
said for the rest of the tree
which has deteriorated rapidly
over the past year.
