EFFECTIVE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT

A school environment is a crucial component of student’s life. Schools should provide students with a
safe environment in which to nurture and grow emotionally, behaviourally and academically; and at the
same developing relationships with others. Each and every student requires structure, respect, stability,
limitation and boundaries and safe environment or an environment. In the school environment, there
are things that positively influence students’ performance. Such things include having good friends
within the school, perceiving that teachers are caring and supportive, believing that discipline is efficient
and fair, participating in extracurricular activities, being a part of a school and having a sense of
belonging. Students become incorporated in their environment when they perceive that the adults in
the school mind about them as individuals and their learning.
ROLE OF EFFECTIVE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
Students who perceive to be connected to their school environment are less likely to be involved in risky
health behaviours such as drug use, early sex, violence, cigarette smoking, suicidal attempts and
thoughts and do better academically. An escalating connection between the students and their
environment reduces fighting, bullying, vandalism, and absenteeism while enhancing education
motivation, academic performance, completion rates and school attendance. Students are more prone
to prosper when they feel a connection to the school. Students who view their school administration
and teachers as creating a well-structured learning environment in which expectations are high, fair,
caring and clear are more likely to be linked to the school and succeed.

WAYS TO DEVELOP AN EFFECTIVE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT

Regardless of other circumstances, an effective school environment could have a positive impact on the
achievements of students. There are several ways to develop an effective school environment. Firstly,
create an organised and safe place. An effective school environment must first be a place where
students can perceive themselves as emotionally and physically safe. It has to be a supportive
community where teachers and kids from all backgrounds can exclusively focus on learning. To attain
safe environment where students are free to reach their potential academically, schools have to
concentrate on hindering misbehaviour through the implementation of school-wide positive behaviour
intervention. These interventions must stress emotional learning and social skills to educate students on
cultural understanding and conflict resolution.

Secondly, the school should have a relatable leader. In an efficient school environment, the principle
should be a leader of leaders. The principal should not only be an authority figure but also be a partner,
cheerleader and coach. Also, the principal should also realise that he or she must not operate in a top-
down authority structure but realise that the best and appropriate solutions arises from a collaborative
effort.

 The environment of the school can influence how effective a student can learn. To start,
there are two main types of environments. There is the surrounding environment around the school.
The trees that surround it, the hills that wrap around, and the grass that lays below factor into the
education of a student. When surrounded by nothing but a city and no green, it can negatively affect the
outcome of an education. With windows that showcase greener landscapes, students will be able to
retain more focus. Every school should work to improve the landscape around its area. The second type
of environment is the classroom’s setup. The classroom shouldn’t be too large as far as how many
students are in during one period of class.

A school should offer as many different class options as they are capable of. This includes
online courses, lower level courses, regular, honors, and college level classes. Having these will allow an
individual personalize their learning to their ability. When schools don’t offer classes that allow a
student to go higher than the norm or start maybe a bit lower than average, they either have to work
extra hard at home to go as far as they’d like, or they may have to struggle to keep up. Those classes are
the base of the school and I believe should require having. After that, electives should be offered. As
many as possible, and ones that are wanted by the students. The students should be the ones who
decide which electives are available while the school is the one who decides how many that are able to
offer. These classes help students to pursue their ultimate dream goal in their free time. They also help
unlock a student’s creativity and build a person’s character.

I believe the most important aspect in a safe and positive learning environment is the
rapport between a teacher and his or her students. When the students understand that their teacher
cares about them and wants them to do well, students feel comfortable asking questions, making
mistakes and taking risks in order to learn something new. To build these kinds of relationships, the
teacher should take interest in each student’s strengths and interests, as well as their struggles and
frustrations. He or she needs to act as a positive model for learning and celebrating achievements.
When the students see that their teacher can learn from his or her mistakes, and laugh even in times
when he or she feels frustrated, the students will feel much more comfortable to do the same.

Theme: School Activities Previously and The Upcoming Events

Board Title: Time to check on the brightest side!

Rationale (Purpose): The purpose of this proposed board display of mine is to give the teachers,
students, and the visitors the information that they needed to know in relations to school related
stuff, and giving them ideas on something that is new from their sight. I would like to put up an
informative side of board that could reflect the positive side of the school, and the joy in learning.

Objectives:

To give the teachers, students and the visitors of the school the information they needed in
relation to school’s achievements, upcoming events, and an informative side of learning.

Best features of my proposed bulletin enhancement:

I am going to use colorful materials, and a design that could attract the target audiences. If
the school can facilitate a few funds for this proposed bulletin I would love to make it more
entertaining for all the audiences. I would love to put up some images, cute designs, legible cut out
letters, and even putting up a few crook boards inside that displayed board in order for the students
to share the information they want the people know. This is also a way to give the students a freedom
on how they will use their resources.

Colorful materials and the lay-out designs, the material to be used in here would be cartolina,
color paper, color pencil, highlighter, color pen, post it and etc. This will give a stimulating attraction
for the all the audiences, and used it to emphasize some information that is a must read for the
audience. This would also help attract even the young children of preschooler, and elementary since
at that young age, they love colorful things.

Color print outs for the images. I could use posters, print out materials, brochure etc. that I
could do with to emphasize more on the topics that needed some pictures for further information
and used for visualization learning.

I’ll be also be needing a glass to protect the displayed board from any unwanted disturbance.

 Since the materials alone could not be done only by me, I would be needing a donation
coming from school if they could provide some funds especially for the bulletin board itself, and the
glass that is needed, and also the payment for its set up at the school ground. If they could not or
could only give a few amount. I would probably take the initiative to solicit some amount of money
from my family member or friends, explaining about the purpose of this money. If there will be an
excess amount, it would likely to be put as a savings for future materials that is to be used, especially
that I’d be wanting to change the content of this board for every three months of the whole school
year.
