Never Too Busy

Never miss opportunities to love God and love people

Quick recap: How can I enter heaven?

A = admit you are a sinner

B = believe that is only by grace
C = call on Jesus

God’s Word assures us of our position in Christ when put our faith in Him.

We are saved through faith alone, by grace alone, in Christ alone.

The parable of the good samaritan is a reminder for all of us not to miss opportunities to show
the world that we love God and the people around us. Showing everyone that we are true
followers of Jesus (John 13:35).

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one
another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John
13:34-35

“The essence of eternity is love and the essence of living is love.” - Ptr Bong Saquing

Are we too busy to pray?

Are we too busy to serve others?
Are we too busy to care for people?

Luke 10:25-37

This parable exposes our hearts to show our tendency to become self-absorbed and self-
centered.

POINT No. 1: Never miss the opportunity to love God with everything we have.

The lawyer (expert in the law), answered correctly, but his words were empty it didn’t match his
heart.

“Experts in the law”

- Lawyer = can be any person trying to justify himself or herself with his or her “good works”
- Priest = can be any church leaders
- Levites = can be any church workers

People can be expert in the law, but not in loving God. People can know and recite Scriptures but
can still fail in having intimacy with God.

“The parable of the good samaritan drives us to our knees to give us a humble heart and to admit
that, “Lord, my number one sin is I don’t love You enough, I don’t love You with all of my heart.”
We don’t love God with all our heart. And because of that, we don’t love our neighbor. - Ptr Peter
Tan-Chi

Jesus answered the lawyer by pointing out to him that you can be an expert of the law but you
must also be expert in loving your neighbor.

Our intimacy with God results to a more caring and loving relationship with our neighbors.

POINT No. 2: Never miss the opportunity to love people with everything that we have received
from God.

“Had compassion, cared, showed mercy”

- Samaritan = every Christian must serve like the Samaritan

We know and, to some extent realise, the love of God for us because Christ expressed it in laying
down his life for us. We must in turn express our love by laying down our lives for those who are
our brothers. But as for the well-to-do man who sees his brothers in want but shuts his eyes—and
his heart—how could anyone believe that the love of God lives in him? My children, let us not
love merely in theory or in words—let us love in sincerity and in practice! 1 John 3:17-18 J.B.
Phillips NT

Us being experts in the law doesn’t give us a free pass to enter heaven. It is only by putting our
faith in Jesus and having a relationship with Him. And that relationship has a natural e ect in our
lives to be gracious (“do good to people”) as we continually experience God’s grace.

We can’t point people to Jesus if we are busy with our phones and gadgets, busy in building our
“social media” life, while we satisfy our desire to be “liked”. Let’s stop being busy with ourselves.
We must deny ourselves and start praying for opportunities to care for people.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, Titus 2:11

Ministry is an over ow of God’s presence and power in your life. That’s why we can pray and care
for people.

- God’s grace appeared, it is already here so people can encounter and experience God’s
power.
- The nished work of Jesus on the cross is the “greatest work” that will allow us to inherit
eternal life by faith. Our works are just results of God’s nished work.
- We are ambassadors of God’s grace! We must be busy praying, caring, and sharing the gospel
to people. We will use programs not the people.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but
I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 1 Corinthians 15:10

- It is only by God’s grace!

- It’s all about God and His grace towards us.

Let’s not forget to highlight God’s grace in our lives!

We always say that the church is not a building but our busyness shifts our focus from people to
programs. We are too busy in doing church, we forget to become the church.

Do nothing from sel shness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more
important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for
the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4

For the whole Law is ful lled in one word, in the statement, “You shall love your neighbor as
yourself.” Galatians 5:14

We must become experts in loving God and people.

We can be experts in de ning love, but are we experts in showing, giving, and living out that
love? How can we show that we truly love God?

We must look at people with love and compassion.

At home and at work, how to be like the Samaritan to our neighbors?

- Husbands, prepare a meal for your wife
- Wives, massage your husband
- Children, give a glass of water to your parents
- Employers, check on your employee’s family condition
- Employees, pray for your supervisors and employers

Closing:

How can we enter heaven? We must put our faith in God, surrender our lives to Him. Because a
surrendered life can be used by God to reach out to our family and friends.

Let us not stop the “doing” part of the church because the world needs to see love in action, but
let us not forget the importance of “being” the church by showing compassion and care to
people.

Never miss opportunities to love God and people.

Let us pray.
