THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICUM IN SK DESA JASMIN

On the 15th of February 2021, I had my first official meeting with Sekolah
Kebangsaan Desa Jasmin’s administration line through Google Meet. There
were a total of 6 people in the meeting including myself. If I had to pick one
word to describe that day, it would simply be ‘nerve wrecking’. I wanted them
to have a good impression on me hence, it was somehow quite pressuring in
many ways. Thankfully, they welcomed us warmly which really helped to put
my nerves at bay.

The first session went smoothly as I hoped. It started with the senior
assistant introducing himself and then it went on to my practicum mates and
me. Next, the teacher told us a bit about SK Desa Jasmin’s background such
as the number of teachers and students, the location of the school and a mere
view of students’ family backgrounds. We were also provided with important
information regarding how online classes are being conducted by the school
such as Google Classroom & Whatsapp are the main platforms that teachers
specifically use for their online teaching. However, we were yet to be given the
teaching timetable therefore we could not start our online teaching until
everything is set up.

To sum it up, the first day was good and honestly, I cannot wait to start off
my first class and meet all the pupils. I admit I am a little anxious about
creating adequate lessons that kids would enjoy, I am willing to take this as a
challenge and enjoy the process. Even though having my first ever practicum
in the middle of a pandemic is not how I imagined it to be, but I believe that
the experiences I will gain from this practicum will be extremely beneficial
down the line.
