Information System Operation and Maintenance

1. Choose a mobile phone app or an online application that you have used recently, which seems
most difficult for you to use.

• Identify the application and explain why you have difficulty using the software.

The most difficult application that I have used recently is Blue Seer. I used Blue Seer application
to do my assignment about the Enterprise Resource Planning. Blue Seer is a completely free ERP
(Enterprise Resource Planning) package for small to medium size businesses. It is very difficult
to understand how it works. For example, if I start a project about creating a bill of material. I list
all the materials that I want to purchase but if I got one material incorrectly listed, I have to restart
the whole project again which is time consuming. Most of the times, when I am in the middle of
doing the project, the application freezes or stop working. I had to shut down my laptop and
restart it again in order for me to continue the project but if I do that, my project will not be save.
So, it is very difficult to use.

• What suggestions can you provide to improve the software? Support your answers.

I suggest that whoever create this application should create a setting where all your projects are
automatically save Just like MS Word or Excel. And also, they should provide specific tutorials
as to how we going to use the application.

2. Based on your chosen career path, describe how a CBIS can be used to reduce costs or increase
profits.

CBIS means computer-based information system. Use of CBIS in a manufacturing situation reduces costs
and thus helps to increase profits. Since I always wanted to create my own business by building a guest
house, as a manager CBIS would be very helpful to me. An information system is the basis of a
guesthouse/hotel as a business system. It will help me to.

• improve the processes involved in performing,

• managing and strategically planning business operations.
• It will enhance the intangible features of services and increases process and service quality
through improvements and innovations.

As a business system, a hotel consists of a number of interrelated subsystems. A feature of modern

hotel operations is the existence of an integrated hotel information system through the use of
computers. This system comprises several components (Hardware, Software, Orgware, Lifeware,
Netware and Dataware) that must all possess the same level of quality. Only by continuously
analyzing the quality and alignment of all components is it possible to gain insight into the global
quality of a hotel information system and to ensure a more efficient management process.
