Executive summary

Even through in recent years, there has been many car rental company is established; among
them I will be evaluating 'Apex Car Rentals' for this case study. Firstly, I would like to describe
its background. It was establishing in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1992. It has built a
reputation for providing customers with outstanding service every day. It respects the various
cultures of its customers and provides the customer with driving times, road rules, directions and
information about beautiful places to go.

Apex Car Rentals launched in Australia in 2012 with the first rental location in Brisbane
Airport. Now it provides services in various branches like Cairns, Gold Coast, Hobart,
Launceston, Melbourne, Surfers Paradise, Adelaide, and Sydney. Recently however, it has
suffered from bad reviews about its service. The numbers of absenteeism increased over the last
six months and the owners are struggling to hire new employees. Motivational programs should
be introduced for the employees. According to the Market Business News, “Motivation is about
the ways a business can encourage staff to give their best. Motivated staff cares about the success
of the business and work better.”(Marketing business news, 2018).There are different types of
motivation theories like Hierarchy of Needs Theory, Theory X and Theory Y, Two- Factor
Theory, Acquired Needs Theory, Equity Theory, Expectancy Theory, etc. These theories help to
motive employees and can reduce the problems.

Maslow's Hierarchy of needs theory is a universal theory. It can be applied to real life. It
discusses our physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness needs, esteem needs and self-
actualization needs. In the absence of one need, this theory is useless. In other words, it must be
applied systematically. Theory X and theory Y is also an effective theory in human life. Theory
X suggests that people are lazier and can be motivated by money. However, theory Y people are
self-motivated and are more independent. Likewise, Herzberg two-factor theory can also be
applied to real life. This theory contains two factors, one is Motivate factors and the other is
Hygiene factors.
