Explain the following:(atleast 5 sentences)
1. What is the relationship of the society and culture?
Culture and society are inextricably linked. A culture is made up of "objects" of a society, whereas a society
is made up of people who share a common culture. When the terms culture and society first took on their
current meanings, the majority of the world's population worked and lived in small groups in the same
location. Culture and society exist in tandem. One does not or cannot exist in the absence of the other.
Culture and society share some characteristics, but they are not the same; they are not identical. The
primary distinction is that society is made up of people, whereas culture is made up of knowledge, ideas,
customs, traditions, folkways, mores, beliefs, skills, institutions, organizations, and artifacts. Society is
made up of people from various cultures. Culture, on the other hand, is concerned with the behaviors,
language, occupation, dress, eating, and festivals of a specific people within a geographical area. A society
is a group of people who live together, and culture is anything that is created by those people. People's
culture is how they manage their lives. Education, religion, technology, the social system, social norms, and
art are all part of it. A society is a group of people who, at the very least, recruit new members biologically
or culturally, and the system of action must be self-sufficient. Because culture is the result of human
thought to meet the needs of his life, society cannot be separated from it.
2. What are the three components that go together that make up culture? Explain

According to John Honigmann, the three components that go

together that make up culture is the ideas, activities, and artifacts.
Ideas refers to the thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and rules of a culture.
Example of these are the aversion to incest, the Holy Spirit, and
food-sharing desires among relatives. Activities is what people do
as opposed to what they believe or feel. Example of these are the
act of punishing incestuous behavior, sacrifice in religion, and
celebration of Christmas. And lastly is the Artifacts, this refers to
the man-made products of ideas and activities. Example of artifacts
are knife that kills the incestuous pair, altar for sacrifice, the pot that
contains the meat for the feast and even the meat.
3. What is the relevance of having the following:
a. NCCA
b. UNESCO
National Commission for Culture and the Arts or known as NCCA is a established School
of living Tradition(SLT) which facilitate and ensure the transmission of dying or
endangered facets of the Philippine traditions. What is the relevance of having nccA?
According to what I've heard during the discussion, the NCCA is a school where they
teach their students about the cultures of the Philippines that will soon disappear and be
forgotten by the people. This is very important because it is the reason why the cultures
of the ancient Filipinos are still alive and are not lost or forgotten up to these days,
because it is still being transmitted through teaching. It also helps conserve and promote
the nation's historical and cultural heritage.

UNESCO, or the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, is

important. It emphasized the preservation of intangible cultural heritage and it
considered both tangible and intangible forms of culture as ‘cultural heritage’.
